is that ur car for sale jeff?

LynxZ3r0
08-15-2006, 09:37 PM
Hey Jeff, you or your Dad ever get out to the car auctions or anything like that?

Reason I ask, is because I'm looking at building a track car and it's pretty hard for a non-dealer to find stripped/wrecked/salvage stuff it seems. If you happen to see any E36 (not ti) bodies around w/ straight frames, let me know. I don't care if it's got a motor or interior or anything really, lol - everything but the body panels and the essential drivetrain components will be stripped anyways, and I happen to have an extra block laying around for race-car buildup anyways ;);)

you want a track car and you refuse the one with the best handling? that hurts...
j/k i know most people hate the looks of ti's

Actually, the only reason I don't want a ti is because my car is already so very similar (same exact suspension design) - the only real difference is that you guys have about 300lbs less and a bit more structural rigidity.

Otherwise, I agree the ti is a better track car to start with.

I'd like to try something w/ a multi-link rear though, just for a change of pace :)

i would get a ti if it wasent a 4 cylinder..

kelso
08-15-2006, 09:54 PM
its a decent 4 cylinders...but if he doesnt care about the engine that means he has plans of pulling it out anyways most likely....which makes me wonder just what the hell he wants to build!

theres already a few superchargers on the market, plus you can swap the motor and theres a new supercharger in the works which i think i will buy when the money is around...lysholm FTW!!!!

LynxZ3r0

S50/S52 powered ti's are pure sex. I would love to build one and strip it down for track duty. I would also love to build a crazy 13+ CR 2.5L "S44" motor.. haha.. Talk about a lightweight little car - leave the 4 cyl in there and jerk it up to S52 power-levels. Wouldn't be able to run it on 93 octane, but it would FLY.

Anyways, back on topic - Multi-link rear suspension for me. If I want to slide, I have my trailing arm suspension in the garage already ;)

LynxZ3r0
08-15-2006, 09:58 PM
Alright, to Hell w/ it.. I'd also consider a ti *IF* it had a motor and manual tranny. Again, quality of the interior and mileage does not matter, the motor will be pulled and all internals replaced.

you could buy our race car it just collects dust..... and its already done and has stand alone and a roll cage and an obd1 converted 3.2 and full suspension and molded over sunroof so no heavy glass and fiber glass hood and trunk and racing seat and stripped and headwork and extra comp tires and diff and exhaust and intake and fpr and wideband and wanring gauges and battery with kill switch and floating rotors and molded brake ducts from teh front bumper and and and and and and 300+hp not on pump gas oops

LOL ;) As tempting as that is, I actually want to build one. That's half my problem - With the Roady nearing "completion," I need a new project. I am very unhappy if I have no cars to work on. The nice part about building a track car is that I can waste a lot of days doing the "free mods" like cutting out the door frames and stripping all the interior ;)

The Weiner

very true i wasnt selling it anyway even though it never gets used it still nice to walk into my garage and see a full blown m3 race car.. then take it ripping through the neighborhood and giving old ladies heart attacks and eating small childern

jake id suggest getting something thats pretty quick stock. If you use it as a track car you may want to race it. If you do too many mods you will be in a class where you'll get a$sraped by much faster cars. Main thing I see though is the "I want to make a track car" which doesn't make much sense. I think you should look for a street car and build up the roadster. I mean, it's already got 300+ hp, and it's not the *best* getting from A to B car. It seems much more reasonable to get a nice E46 street car and then keep working on the roadster for the track.

oh and btw should you get a track car and ever race an enduro at sebring ill run with you. Ive been around there so many friggin times i know it like the back of my hand...... hmm, whered that freckle come from?

I'd like to find a straight E36 M3, ideally, but if not, the car will be built to E36 M3 specs. I will start using it as is to run, then start adding up NASA/BMWCCA legal mods. In all honesty, I've never done anything competitive to be competitive - I do it because it's fun as Hell and I don't care if I place 1st or last (I'm not Ricky Bobby.)

The reason the Roady is not going on track duty is twofold - 1) Right now, the Roady is pretty much the ultimate in daily driven street car. I can get 25-30mpg if I want, and I can go fast as Hell if I want, and all of this in reasonable comfort w/ the top down, and I don't have any use for back seats ;) It's also less rigid and therefore less of a track car than a hardtop vehicle would be.

I'd also like the track car to be N/A and relatively close to stock power levels. Basically, I want something where my skill can be increased on w/o having to worry about crashing my Roady into a wall.

LDadrenaline

yeah that makes alot of sense. I know when my dad teaches people with high hp cars its normally wayyyy above their lvl so he slows them way the fck down. They get kinda pissed that they cant floor it and spin the tires out of every turn, but he slows em down till they run the right lines consistently. A good, rigid car that handles well can run circles around high hp cars.
