How can you not love Brabus? The German tuning house's specialty is taking exceedingly powerful Mercedes-Benz automobiles and elevating them to sublime new levels of performance. Case in point: their latest monster, the SV12 S Biturbo Roadster. It's just the ticket if your SL65 AMG, with its 600+ horsepower and 700+ lb ft of torque, just isn't getting it done.
Brabus' killer roadster is driven by a 6.3L twin-turbo V12 worked over by its in-house witch doctors. After working their black magic on it, the engine produces 730 horsepower and 738 lb ft of torque (500/500 is so passé). 62 mph arrives in 4 seconds, and the top speed is electronically capped at 217 mph.
Revised bodywork, a lowered and retuned suspension, and wheel/tire/brake upgrades complete the overhaul and ensure that the car's appearance and handling complement its gaudy performance capabilities. Naturally, the interior can be completely customized to suit the driver's personal needs and desires.
No pricing information was released, but chances are that if you're ordering one of these puppies, money's not really an object anyway.
And lets try to give the Merc guys a chance to respond before the BMW bandwagon comes through ;)
AMG cars are monster performers. I'd probably be more apt to recommend one over an M car to the average person who simply wants a nice german car for a DD....less of the sporty edge my M3 has, more straight line punch.

Thats probably one of the most rediculous posts Ive seen on FG.

I said 'an' AMG car, you didnt read correctly -- nowhere in my post did I mention the car in question, though words like "TOTALLY RIDICULOUS" come to mind when that car has more torque than 3 of my motors combined :)
Also electronically limited at only 217mph? weaksauce.

I really dislike the modern mercedes vehicles, back in the early-mid 80's they were awesome. Now they're marketed almost strictly to the luxury market, and for those few that want more performance their solution is to strap a supercharger/turbo to a humongous engine to make half the power of what it should really be making...

Damn, thats a hot car. I dono if id rock it as a DD though. Id rock that as more of a "doctor just told me I had 3 days to live, and all I want to do is have a great time" kind of car. lol.
I dono though, im kind of over the black merc on fat black rims. I would rather see like a white or silver one on some fat chrome rims maybe. Or a nice red like my moms SLK.
In any case, 217 mph cap is kind of ghey. If your gonna give a car 712 hp, or w/e it was, dont limit its full potential. Ford did that with the new Mustang GT 400, and it just seems like a stupid move. At least on my opinion. If you're gonna pay as much as that merc is probly going to cost, I wouldnt want a computer telling me how fast is too fast.
And on the DD topic. You wouldnt be able to drive that as a DD. For 2 reasons. 1st being that the smaller mercs are the most unpractical little cars on the market. Trunk space is almost inexistent, the glove boxes are used to hold the cd players, and i could go on and on about space restrictions. 2nd reason being, do you have any idea how low the mpg is going to be on that car?! Its going to be like next to nothing!!!
Still a graet car though, id rock it. Take it to prom or somthing, lol.
TheDarkSide
08-05-2006, 12:13 PM
^Practicality may not be all there but everyone has different needs. I rocked a S2000 for quite a while as a DD and it never really put a damper on anything for me. I do not really need a huge trunk, I never have anyone in the back seat, I do not tow anything etc. MPG? Would you really care if you could afford that car. Reminds me of the video of the Mclaren F1 LM and them complaining about the 6mpg.

You may say that, just like everyone hates Chris Bangle, but since they changed from these old designs, everyone says they hate, both BMW and MB's sales have increased substantially. Cars are built for customers, not enthusiasts traditionalists that are afraid of change.

Dave thats why Chris Bangle is number 6 up from 24th on Motor Trend's 2006 Power List... i disagree though, i think that the designs that BMW and some MB have accomplished today are designs that to me are fundamental and fun... i think that Bangle more than anyone creates designs that are for the enthusiasts...

Back on topic...That's a pretty sick car. I remember hearing on 5th Gear that they would've had the stock SL65AMG pushing 1000ft-lbs torque but the trannies wouldn't hold  217mph...they probably put the limiter on it because the car isn't stable above that :drive2:

Lol I like my Sedan tyvm... Its kinda "F.ucking ridiculous*" to laugh at when a 4 door is doing 0-60 in 4.5 seconds...
Idrive rocks, It only takes a couple mintues to learn and when you figure out all of the shortcuts and pathways, its simple and fast. I've never had a complaint about it lol...
I don't like the interiors in the MBs... thats all I have against em.. I don't like the setup and the steering wheel at all. The M5 is just right for me, I wanted a fast and comfortable car with 4 doors and room for luggage and tvs in the headrests, and thats exactly what I got.
To each their own...

God isnt that the damn truth... i swear i slam on the brakes in my moms and its like i tears your whole body apart while coming to a stop but it doesnt feel confident really and you touch the brakes around town and you are nose diving everywhere... i get whiplash when im driving at 5mph

still E500 is a really nice car... i just hate the steering and braking in the MB cars thats why i have so much sh!t to say about them bc they brake like a mac truck and the damn steering wheel is is like taking a huge cereal box and cutting thumb holes out of it... they are so huge and awkward it kills me...

im embarassed to say it, but my sisters POS fwd scion tc is more fun to drive than the mb.... The steering is a little loose on it but not as bad as the mb. In fact, the scion actually has pretty damn good throttle response. Now with an lsd, catback, intake, and chip I'd like to see what it could do.

anyways i like the mercedes exterior styling and designs but its just not much of a driving car to me i dunno....something just doesnt do it for me with mercedes. plus they arent too smart with distributing the power on those high horsepower engines. my friend who works at merc of tampa was telling me that a lot of customers were complaing about weird shakes or whatever when driving. they figured out that the cars were spinning the tires at full throttle at like 70 i think and the tires would spin on the wheel. and why owuld you electronically limit it at 217? you have no need to go that fast on roads, maybe the autobahn but for the most part thats a racetrack only speed. so if your building a racecar why limit it electroniclly if you want it to stop at 217, change the gearing so it gets there quicker and then cant go faster than that.
LDadrenaline
08-07-2006, 10:54 PM
yeah the only limiting i can really understand are limiters at either 150 or none at all... 217 is so random. Do mercs have air ride suspension, cuz we can set ours between comfort, sport 1, and sport 2. Only problem is that I think its broken because they all feel like sport 1... oh well, I'm not planning on buying a merc so it doesnt matter too much to me
