I officially have a Porsche Carerra sitting on jackstands in my garage, I have pretty much made my mind up on BBS LM's, but wanted to see what everyone else thaught too. It will have new shoes mounted by next thursday, so chime in on your favorites.

List your favorite wheels in order 1-5 (1 being most, and 5 being least)

Work Brombacher's > LM's > all the rest.

...while i love LM's, they are so damn overplayed its sickening. plus the quality isn't worth the premium you'll pay for genuine set of BBS LM's. the Work Brombachers on the other hand are essentially VS-XX's made specifically for Porsches, and are far less played out than LM's (especially on Porsches). and they'll cost less than the LM's as well.

...of course i'm just working with the wheel options you provided. perhaps some Advan RG's are in order:
http://images.superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/130_0701_08_z+fred_changs_2006_acura_rsx_type_s+ad van_rg_2_wheels.jpg

or some Volk GT-U's (sorry - i couldn't find them on a Porsche, but i've seen them on a few Porsches before, and they all looked SICK ):

Those are CCW Classics... The company is up in Tampa. They custom make the wheels to order and can make them in whatever offset/width/size you want ;) Really reasonably priced to!

Custom turbo twists with lips and rivets? > LMs > RuF> Work > the rest. are you going to paint the rims white or black to match or leave them?

I don't think your car has a wide enough body for the CCWs, they would look stupid.
did you miss what Chino said about CCW's ability to offer custom diameter, width, and offset? he can get them in an offset that corresponds to a much smaller lip than the lips shown on those widebody pics. then they would look fine on his car. i completely forgot about the Classics Chino...good suggestion.

94jz, what do the volks run? and the advans? in 18s
i honestly couldn't tell you. but if i had to venture a guess, i'd say that either of them will run about the same as the Works, maybe slightly less. but don't quote me on that...

Thanks chino and 94jz.

Keith, I will be painting them white later down the road, but keeping silver for now.

Im pretty set on the LM's, I am checking into ccw's as we speak, thats about my only other option, the hollow spoke turbo twists are cool too....LMs are 1000 a wheel, and ill be getting a great deal, so I cant argue.

i suppose that's a good price for LM's, but its all relative. you'll spend less on pretty much any of those other wheel options (i'm sure the LM's will be the most expensive when all is said and done). but it seems that aesthetics are more important in this instance than overall price. the bottom line is that you need to do what your heart tells you.

I had the LM's on my C4S and my C2. They were 19/8.5 front and 19/11 rears with a 3" lip. A pain to clean but worth the effort. They just have that classic look. They make a new version called the LMR(I think) That look awesome as well. Im going to look into buying some for the new car after the new year. Enjoy.

yes i actually did miss that... lol. idk, I like the wheels but don't know if they would look as good with the smaller lip/offset. And seeing as he cant run that wide of a wheel I don't think it would work.

Even if you match up where the spokes connect near the "rivets" or whatever, its the same places for both rims

[LMR's are] similar to these Works
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk292/BMWNOT4U/vs-tx.jpg
these are Work VS-TX's...i actually prefer these to the LMR's b/c the upper half of each mesh spoke (the "V" part of the "Y" in each spoke) is deeper. so i prefer both the VS-TX's and the LM's to the LMR's.

spotted a gt2 (or turbo kitted to look like a gt2 not sure) today on ccw's i drooooled all over my windows as the driver kicked it at the light.

lm's or ccw's either would be sexy

19s should look big on it but not huge, or just be that guy and rock 20s

rbmotoring also imports the super RS wheels

Agreed guys, thanks riggs for the photoshop you are kinda a life saver.

All the porsche guys on the P car forum said NO NO NO to 19s, I didnt think it would look that big, but seeing that photoshop proves me wrong, they look HUGE! I cant do that, I love the bbs lm's but I am considering selling my car for a coupe either way, so I think at this point, I will be either doing 18" fikses, or 18" turbo twists with stretched tires.

turbo twists = win

porsche has always made some of the best OEM wheels. Fuchs, twists, the new boxster wheels.... You really don't see that many porsches running around on non-OEM wheels (even if they are running wheels from a different model or generation)

The bbs are just way way too big, maybe keeping it oem porsche is a good thing

one thing you need to remember about photochops (especially mine) is they don't show the depth of the wheels and such. you can't see the 4in lip in the rear which makes them so sexy and little things like that

and remember you can always flip a set of bbs wheels if you found a killer deal

I just looked under my car at the shocks, and they are threaded, the cup that holds the spring into place on the bottom of each shock, is like a nut, that appears to be adjustable up or down the shock....

normal for oem shocks? they could be aftermarket

JRiggs
12-01-2008, 01:23 PM
might have been a club sport deal where you get coil overs, i think on the gt2/gt3 they get adjustable ride height for different tire combinations

might have been a club sport deal where you get coil overs, i think on the gt2/gt3 they get adjustable ride height for different tire combinations

I dont know much about suspension, but i know if I were to turn that piece, it would compress the coil more, giving me a lower height---that would make sense right?

JRiggs
12-01-2008, 01:47 PM
i think without looking at a coilover if the adjustment for the shock mount is below the spring you move it down the sleeve towards the ground to adjust the ride height lower. make a note of how many turns you make so you can put it back to how it was before if it doesn't do what we think it might do lol

LutzPerformance
12-01-2008, 01:53 PM
I believe alot of the older Porsche's have adjustable suspensions for the rear, I could be wrong but we have adjusted a couplel 928's and both of them were bone stock DD's. But as he said, def mark your spot before you make adjustments.

when you get the wheels just take it over to vortex. they will put them on and corner balance the car so it will clear and handle better

Oh shit! I see now, i feel like im doing a coloring book lol and picking out the differences, so much better without that damn light. what were they thinking? I am pretty set on 18" hollow spoke turbo twist 18x8.5 and 18x11 for a nice aggressive fitment

Keith I considered white twists, not sure if thatd be ghetto or look nice.

RIGGS?! hahahaha

and LD, I would take the car to them, BUT, its on jackstands lol, I will install them myself then take it down and let them fix wtvr they gotta

They have done all the work so far, good guys down there, happy with the service

well then lift the car up as much as you need to to get the wheels on, but it will have more tendency to snap oversteer on you from raising the rear up until you get it corner balanced. If you drive the car normally you probably won't notice, but if you go to drive it hard you will notice very quickly. I know we raised the rear of my dads car up like a quarter of an inch to get some wider tires on the back and the car was almost undriveable.

I dont understand, your saying the car needs to be raised, as in the shocks, in order to fit the wheels? or your saying after having it lifted for a week, I will need some fixing"?

im saying its fine to raise the car if you have to... i have no idea whether the wheels will fit or not. but if you do need to raise it, i would take it over for an alignment and corner balance... no you wont break anything, but the rear engine cars are very finicky about weight distribution

will do, but the plan is to lower it more, it rides high as it is

i don't like white on black wheels. they just don't look "right" in my eyes

o and the and i quote "one lug bbs" ones lol

if its on a car is easier to do since they have rubber around them and i don't have to simulate that, if they are at a slight angle i can correct that more or less

Riggs those look nice, I cant help but keep looking at the bbs lms that I planned on buying, I wanna pull the trigger on the twists, but thats stuck in the back of my head still....My favorite wheel, but they didnt look very good on my car, however maybe it was the pic, or the angle???

If I post up a handful of pics of my car, and handful of cars with bbs LM's is it possible to get a couple different angles with 19" lms photoshopped on?

I owe you a couple cheeseburgers sometime lol.

I see the pics, c4s was sick man, but the wheels look small on it for 19s without the drop I think, those fender wells must be huge!

I am on the fence right now, I really love LM's, and everytime I go to pay for twists, I look at them and dont want to be average......can someone take these two pictures and just make the LM's 1 inch bigger to scale so they appear to be 19s instead of 18s?

You know, I sold the car 2 yrs ago and do think they were 18's. I know the width was right but for auto-x I think I did go with the 18's. I got alot of compliments on the wheels. It kept that under stated classic look. My Twin turbo had the 19's. Good luck with what ever you choose. Im sure its going to look awesome. There is nothing like a tricked out german car.

I dunno taylor to be honest, the 911 turbo we have here, has the HRE turbo twist looking wheels and I really like them, do they sell them for your offset? I think I like that look over the LMS to be honest.

I love those hre's but that is a "kustom" "dub carshow" or "sema" type look that only the newer body can pull off IMO. Its either LM,FIKSE or OEM...the others look "racey" which is the only thing I can pull off IMO

When I got the bmw, I bought most of the mods within 2 months lol, then sold them all for different mods. Trying to do things different with this car, the only reason I am buying the mods I listed right now, is because the brush guards on the side need to be painted, so does the bumper and the reflector if I decide, I figure I can save some money by doing the aero mirrors, brake ducts, and a couple of other parts all at the same time. I am just adding a few mods, and replacing a ton of OEM parts to get it back to "concourse" condition in case I decide to sell down the road for a coupe. I have replaced tons of small parts, plastic parts, bolts, buttons, plugs, caps, etc just to make it clean again
