Just saw a plug on fox during the game, had a video of the white RS4 pulled over with a few other cars with numbers on them from the event, said "speeding down the highway? people hanging out of windows? why cops say these cars were racing"... details after the game.

If they had news crews, they had them yanked for awhile, everyone ok??

no one got arrested. quite a few were given multiple tickets.

Silver Phoenix

I just saw that too. Gonna stay up to watch it lol

But I'm not surprised that it happened, especially after how some pulled into the meet today :)

Glad nobody's hurt/locked up, but yea, there was a lot of noise and smokin tires on the access road leaving today... don't get me wrong, nothing I like more than exotic cars converting sick horsepower into noise and smoke, but that begged for attention.

the main reason they got caught is because there were quite a few helicopters in the area because mcain and obama were both in orlando

But imagine being able to say that Helicopters caught you? Way better than a cop on the side of the road about to fall asleep waiting for speeders lol

the only way getting caught could have been better than the "copter catch", was if mccain or obama were racing along in the cop car after you!

It was probably Obama. He saw a nice car, and said "I know a poor fucker in SoHo that could use that, I'm going to redistribute the wealth and give it to them because he's rich and they're poor". Fucker thinks he's robin hood.

+1, its all about being in public. I remember back in high school in TV production, we actually studied (the one thing we did study) was about the privacy laws and the legality between public and private places. Plus the cop can easily see the camera, so he knows its there, its not hidden in a lapel pin or anything

The film from the cop car, filming them is fine, shit look at mardi gras----everyones filming and cops are everywhere, or at a rally same deal. I think he was letting the driver know it was an arrestable offense, that hes lucky for getting off so easliy.

And avril lavigne? wtf....that is "complicated" or "complicayyytedd"

The myjami boys need to work on their tunes; I watched a lot of the other youtube videos, sick cars, incriminating footage, but it reminds me of the scene in Talledega Nights when frenchy is lapping the track listening to mozart, sipping an espresso.

If they keep up this negative coverage you will see some politician publicly come out against this. It's a safe issue. Everyone likes driving fast but when they word it as "street racing" it sounds so bad. If this keeps up the head of Gatorun needs to come out and try to work the press to his benefit.

I still think they should give speed specific licenses to people based on skill, snow caps should never be allowed out of the slow lane, 16' yr olds should not be able to top out a brand new m3 without any driving experience. The autobahn system is much better suited to us in Florida due to our immense availability of long straight roads

LDadrenaline
10-28-2008, 12:27 PM
you cant really give people different licenses. If a cop sees someone speeding and pulls them over to find out they have a license for it like 10 times then they are just wasting their time... But then someone without that specific license might get by because the cop stops caring. Just doesn't work lol. Only way would be to have something displayed on the outside of the car, but then that doesn't mean the driver of the car is the owner of the car...

no thats not me. I was very close to going with them through that stretch of I4, but knew I would do something stupid.... I would have been furious if I had gone with them and gotten caught. I never speed around and do dumb shit, so if the one time I did I got caught I would probably kill someone.

Thats because any group of performance cars that are traveling in a pack at speed are obviously all street racing, right?

Street racing has just become an umbrella term when they are really looking to give you the shaft. Luckly, some lawyers have found some good loopholes in it so its getting harder and harder to convict people of it.

Not true. They have difference licenses here in Australia, and I'm pretty sure they have a similar system some places in Europe.

Here, when you first get a license, you get a provisional license. You're limited to 80 km/h max (among some other restrictions). You get a square tag to display next to your license plate with a big red "P" on it. After you've had your P-plate for a while, you get a learner's license, and an L-plate. You're then limited to 90 km/h max. A while later, you move up to a 100 km/h max L-plate. Finally, after another year or so, you get an unrestricted license. There are written and road tests at each level (P plate -> L plate -> Second L plate -> Unrestricted). Granted, it seems like it would be a bit of a pain, but if it slows shitty drivers down, all the better.

LDadrenaline
10-29-2008, 08:12 AM
but whats to restrict some idiot from borrowing their friends car with an L plate and speeding around in that? im just relating it to the law here that with a moving violation you cant ticket a car, you have to ticket the driver. Cop has no way of knowing who is driving unless they pull them over, which would mean lots of pulling people over.

Kevlar
10-29-2008, 06:22 PM
Hm. Well, it's sort of the same way here. Obviously there's nothing to prevent people from breaking the law (P-platers driving a non-plated car), just as there's no way to really prevent someone from speeding. The point is that if they do get pulled over, they get even more reamed for being not only over the speed limit, but over their license restriction.

Oh, and if you have an unrestricted license and want to drive someone's P or L-plated car, the plates are usually put in little add-on plastic slots next to the license plate, so they're easy to remove.

(Interestingly though, you CAN ticket a car here. If you're driving a friend's car and get busted by a speed camera, they still send the owner the ticket, and it's the owner's responsibility to sort it out regardless.)
