The link i'm about to provide describes the radio scanner I was advised to get. Well i'm about to get it and I just wanted to make sure that this one can in fact pick up the frequencies the cops use. If anyone can tell me if it can or can't judging by what is listed I would be happy, thanks.

i have a single side band that pics up police frequency and will allow you to talk on them (which is a super bad idea talking on them that is)

that one looks like it should pick up the popos radios

That one will be more than you'll ever need.

I have the BCT15 (the model down) and I have no idea why I even bought that one. I have only probably used 3% of its features.

Also, keep in mind you'll need an Amateur (HAM) radio license to legally use it in any mobile vehicle.

yeah... i never got one of those, with strong raido's like these you can be pin pointed from what i've been told. not sure about what kinda trouble that gets you in but it doesn't sound good

You will need FHP and sheriffs frequencies too. (there are many) and my friend on the inside said they use a oscillating frequency that you have to have a special decoder to get the signals to come in right away off any frequency, best thing to do is to set it to scan those and to broadcast to you whichever ones in use (edit) yes I agree with riggs, should get the one without gps support

with or without gps you can be pinged with any radio that transmits a signal. back in high school we'd take the trucks out in the woods for "rabbit hunts" one truck would hide and put a rubber band around the squalker and you use the signal strength to find it. if someone wants to pin point you it's real easy to triangulate the signal

just FYI (for anyone who wants to know for future reference) I called the police station and talked to an Officer and they said that it wasn't illegal, it's completely legal to have one in your car, have it turned on, and you don't need any type of license for it. I even told them that I had the most expensive one you could get that can pick up cell phone and beeper conversations and they said, it's still legal to have it in your car. Don't get me wrong though, the owner's manual says it's extremely illegal to listen in on Cell phone and beeper conversations, and it's illegal to pick up unencrypted messages. It just says if you "accidently" slip in on one, to immediately get off. Just thought I should let you guys know.
