just wanted to post this up for anyone that goes to install an amp and sup into a mark 4 jetta.
sorry long wordy rambling but will help if your trying to install and amp and sub and having problems
i helped a buddy today install his 12in p1 fosgate and 300 watt fosgate amp into his mark 4 jetta gli. what a pain at first, seemed like getting from the engine bay to the cabin of the car was going to be annoying since there was tons of plastic and covers everywhere. after a few minutes of looking around for the shortest path i found a distribution block under the dash checked the wires they ran to the battery and were fused with a 110amp fuse. he suggested we just use that (he also told me to just use the power running the stock amp in the trunk :banghead: ) and vwvortex had no real opinions. so well we did, added our line of 8 gage to the bung and a 30 amp between his amp and the distribution block. power check. next problem remote no real problem use an add a circuit fuse in the fuse box (driver side in dash) number 31 is open and powers with the ignition. check done. ground via bolt holding rear seatbelt driver side. tapped the rear speakers where the wires run threw the b pillars, if you pull off the b pillar cover you can see two wire harness that pass threw the door, bottom of the top harness is your audio you want to tap. ran those back to the trunk to a line out converter. plugged everything together wam bam sounds good he loves it everything is happy. test and tuned it at near max volume for the better part of an hour every things good to go.
total install time sub 20 minutes.
yeah i know super bad diy but i don't think a step by step on an amp install is necessary just a few key issues that needed to be addressed
