I heard it was crap and you have to keep the iphone perfectly still to get any consistent times.

What it does is use the accelerometers in the phone to record acceleration. You multiply the acceleration by the car's weight, and you get the force on the car. You multiply that by the speed the car is going (calculated using the accelerometers in the phone) and you get power. It won't give you power at a certain RPM, just max power. So yes, you have to keep the phone still. But if you do, it should be somewhat accurate. It's the same exact thing the g-tech does, but the g-tech is purpose built for it, so the accelerometers are probably a little better. Plus it has a nice mount so it doesn't bang around (which is why you got 2.something g's, that's like f1 cornering territory).
