Haha, well, it was inevitable. I'm sure there have been others, this is just the first news article I have seen documenting a drifting accident since Tokyo Drift came out. What an idiot, trying to drift a FWD car (without even a driver's license).

yeah i know alot of idiots think that drifting is just getting the back end to come around for a second... they dont know that you have to power it all the way through the turn by spinning the rear wheels lol

FWD FTL

What about our beloved mini owners? ;)

I think the only time I've ever swung the back end out of my car was at the last autox... i am neither fast nor furious ftl

would be fun to mess around in an empty lot so I can say "look ma i drifted!!!" but considering my tires arent $100 a pop I'm not in a hurry.

What about the Mini? FWD < RWD still. The Mini sort of makes it work, but RWD would certainly be better. FWD is budget-oriented, not performance-oriented.

They're not going to make an AWD or RWD Mini from the factory because that would be breaking with the Mini's "heritage." Sort of like how VW isn't going to make any AWD GTI's anymore. The MkV is sort of a "back to the basics/heritage" car.

Um Ryan I guess you were gone when Timmy posted the article from his "Mini Digest" or whatever. They are coming out with an AWD mini and switching it to turbos... it's gonna rock

Kevlar

They are? Confirmed? That's odd, because I definitely read something when the mini came out about them trying to follow the form and setup of the original mini. An AWD Mini just seems... wrong?

Hm, I did some searching for this "AWD Mini" and I could find is that in late 2004, Getrag produced it's own AWD Mini (they currently make the transmissions for the Mini). Not BMW's doing, though one article says "BMW development boss Dr. Burkhard Goeschel recently tested the car and was, “rather impressed”." Still, I couldn't find anything other than pure speculation by forum posters that BMW would actually put an AWD Mini into production. It'd be cool, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Um, yeah, read the thread you just linked me to. It says nothing about BMW actually making an AWD Mini. Just that, like I said, Getrag made an AWD Mini to show off it's "Twinster" AWD system.

"Of course none of this officially means that (A) we will eventually see an AWD MINI or (B) this will be the system that is used. But all that said, BMW has partnered with Getrag for years when it comes to the drivetrain area of it’s cars. Further, this system is well engineered and very much performance oriented, both prerequisites for BMW and MINI."

I wish people with FWD cars would learn to use the E-Brake like I was "told" to do at the Ford Drive Safe thing out at the auction with the school that was a lot of fun cus we got to beat up on new cars for free like the Fusion, Mustang, and 500 if your gunna "drift" with a FWD car at least do it in a parkinglot common....

I remember when I saw the first fast and the furious at the movie theatres and every ricer was driving like an idiot through the parking lot. Then a couple parents tried to take the the company that made the movie to court bc a couple teens died trying to drive under semis.

this is natural selection at work, something we have unfortunately almost stamped out completely from our society :(

like george carlin said... the kid who swallows too many marbles ISNT SUPPOSED TO MAKE IT.

We're doomed :(

the whole fast and furious series has ruined a lot of things as far as the "performance driving" enthusiast's are concerned. street racing has HUGE consequences now, cops are cracking down on that, aggressive driving, and even "exhibition of speed." yes street racing is dangerous and i am not condoning it....but i will say that i have street raced on many occasions and will often find myself at "key" locations in tampa late on saturday nights. the way responsible street racing is organized is not on heavily occupied roads. since that series came out cops have wrongfully profiled sport compacts and performance vehicles. there is a difference between knowing how to drive "spirited/aggressively" and thinking you can. the problem is stupid, untrained/inexperienced drivers trying things they see on tv and in movies not knowing how to complete the task safely or even correctly.

well i mean u can Front Wheel Drift as long as u know how to do it most idoits dont have the balls to take the car up to 50 and rip the e-brake and slam into a turn i think it because
1 the drive dont have the balls too
2 the driver is not experiance enough to do it
3 worrys about cost of tires
4 lack of hp / or car ways to much

to me there one rule u either live or die might as well try and see what happens
but i mostly do my FWD drifting in a parking lot at work and not on streets unless there empty like at 2 or 3 am when no one on the road

I agree with u a 100% i say if u want to try something learn it somewhere safe then try i hate how people think they can race and when u take them into a turn they nearly hit u i remmber back a few months i was racing a mustang and the guy couldnt keep it in his lane at about 80 or 90 i would hate to see the driver try to hold it at speeds at like 100 or 120 because they would lose it most likey i know that for a fact i cant hold a 100 in my car since it like go cart light the wind put alot of force agaist it at 100 it likes to sway but the new tires do help a bit but hey i know my car a pos also it wasnt built to hold at thoses speeds maybe a few more mods then it will hold better
