I thinking about getting a 3.46 diff to replace my 3.14. If anyone knows where to look let me know. They come off automatic 325 automatics BTW. Thanks

your desperate to beat me huh?
if your gonna get a new diff fork out the money and get a LSD!
Word with Jeff,
get an LSD before a diff change. the torque change isn't going to make such a huge difference. With mods, yes, but stock on stock, it's kinda :gay: and your highway cruising speeds go up, as does your gas mileage.

www.bmrparts.com (http://www.bmrparts.com) is your best bet. Used diffs for about ~$250 (if their pricing is still the same as a year or two back) - can get pretty much any ratio w/ or w/o LSD.
Edit: Or, if price doesn't really matter and you want an absolutely bulletproof custom built one.. www.diffsonline.com ... any ratio w/ any lockup % on the LSD and a few other optional things.. but a tad on the expensive side. The "Good" side is that they are brand new and made to order.

I'd love an LSD but I don't have $1000+ to dish out. My budget is around $400 for the diff.
Nick, the car isn't too stock. The intake is on and the chip and exhaust will be on soon. Not too much more I can do other than supercharge.

Give BMRParts a call, I would be very surprised if they could not accomodate your budget *WITH* an LSD. Their prices are really good, and all of their stuff comes w/ a 90 day (?) warranty.

Evidently the 3.46 didn't come w/ an LSD in any year, so your closest bet would be something like this (http://www.data.bmrparts.com/bmwparts/17739549439375U.html)which is a 3.62 LSD from an E46 M3. Couldn't find any lower aside from the 3.23 ratio, which may be a little too low for what you're looking for.
You have a 6 Speed? Ever think of just going balls out and getting a 3.73? All the people I ever talk to say that is the #1 best mod you can EVER do to an S54 powered vehicle, so I would imagine it would be almost just as decent on the M54 motors...
Edit: Nevermind, I see your tag line about the 5 Speed... so I wouldn't recommend 3.73 for a daily driver.

That seems like a pretty big mod to do on a lease :dunno:

I don't see the big deal with it being a lease? I'd probably get rid of the car in 3years anyway if I bought it. Plus, when you sell a car, you don't get extra money for the mods. Just how I see it.

Yeah, but they bitch to all hell when they take it back. When you sell it it is as-is

I'll probably take most of the stuff off and they'll never know. It's all good.

Automatic 2.5 liter E46s have 3.46 diffs. Manuals have a 3.15.

Hmm, yes I am familiar with that, I am dyslexic. I read it as "i might have my hands on a E46 diff tomorrow"
