Posted this over at the Rev, but thought I would share my joy with FG as well...
This is what happens when your tread seperates from your tire at 75mph. Colin needs some new trim...

So yeah, it was quite devistating. As you can see, its dented where that plastic piece in front of the bumper went. Rubbing compound should take care of the tire marks, but it also took off some paint. Not a fun day for me, I was 35 miles from home too...
From a second post:
Here are more pictures. I sent an email to Michelin today to see if there is anything they can do for me...

They are Michelin MXV 185/65/15

Here is the shredded part of the tire. As you can see, it just seperated and tore apart.
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v183/60/46/505276377/n505276377_412335_4107.jpg
The bubble in the other Michelin. This is an MX4 tire, and sadly will have to last me a few weeks.

A rather artsy shot of how much tread I had on the tire that shredded.

And lastly, because I didn't have any before, a complete side shot of the car.

^That particular tire was maybe 3 years old but had only been on the car as of October 07 with less than 1000 miles on it. All the other tires are 3 years old as well.

damn thats a decent amount of damage
hopefully they will do something, although I could see them denying you because of the age of the tires

less than a day later it was damaged. :( I'll have it out at the meet though. This new paint is awesome for me but some mishaps here and there are not to cry about, Im more of a performance guy anyway.
colincoon with the benz, let us know how you get the car fixed, im interested in seeing how well that rubber will come off!

After 45 minutes with the cheese cloth and some rubbing compound, and viola! No more rubber! It did reveal a bunch of scratches and the metal is pretty soft on the door now from where the tread slapped it. Anyway, here are some photos. Also, I guess I drive a silver 190E now haha.

Its all gone! Came out pretty easily with a damp cloth and rubbing compound. The stuff on the top of the car is just dew as I did this at night...

The dent and wheel well around it are the worst parts of the car. Lots of scratches and paint missing. Hopefully it can be taken car of though...

There are some scratches on the door also, and the metal is really really soft in this area. But it *looks* alright, which is okay.

Ahh, its a smoke silver car again. So yeah it all came out pretty well and besides a ton of scratches and a dent, everything is okay.

^Thanks! Just hit it with rubbing compound and a damp cloth, thats what I did and it came off. Of course I need to wax it again, but hey I'm happy for now.

Forgot to post this here, but Michelin won't do anything for me at all. The tire is discontinued (gee, I wonder why?) so its automatically void of any warranty...
Good news is I get new tires on Tuesday....bad news is I can only afford used =[

First off, new tire! Hooray!
http://photos-377.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v197/60/46/505276377/n505276377_430476_8092.jpg
This is where it seperated (obviously).
http://photos-377.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v197/60/46/505276377/n505276377_430478_8677.jpg
The closest part of the tear is the part that first tore off I would assume. The tire was rotating in that direction.
http://photos-377.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v197/60/46/505276377/n505276377_430479_9025.jpg
The inside of the tire right under the missing tread spot. I didn't see any puncture, and I did check the tire before it was taken off the rim. It didn't have a leak, still held 29psi.
http://photos-377.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v197/60/46/505276377/n505276377_430480_9372.jpg
Artsy shot to show the tread...
http://photos-377.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v197/60/46/505276377/n505276377_430481_9655.jpg
It was getting dark, so my macro didn't work very well. I had to take this blurry shot, but this is of the tread seperating from the wheel itself...
http://photos-377.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v197/60/46/505276377/n505276377_430482_9940.jpg

Yes, that tire was from 1988. It was made the 10th week of 1988 in the Michelin plant in Bamberg Germany, Michelin Reifenwerke, A.G., Hallstadt Postfach 1140. (That's the address, I guess.) It probably isn't a bad idea for everyone that is not sure to check their spare and make sure it's not 20 years old. A tire is considered bad after 6-7 years. I don't want this to happen to my car, (if it was on the road instead of in pieces in my side yard LOL)
Yeah, I won't be getting anything! Oh well, atleast it was fun to bitch for a while...
