LOL at vw dealerships.... my friends GTI has a rough idle, sounds like a deisel engine and its an 07. so he brought it in and the techs heard the noise, and said the tore the engine down and inspected the balance shafts and reassembled without fixing anything ...then said they couldnt hear a problem in the first place.... he checked the oil and it was the same old oil. so they dropped the oil pan and messed with the internals, and somehow retained the old oil? bullshitters....

Yea, a few months ago I reluctantly went to Aristocrat VW to get a recall done. Recall letter said to expect to have it worked on for 2 and a half hours, got a call 30 minutes later, car was done. Driving off I noticed a sloshing noise coming from my console area, never heard it in my life until I brought it there. Went back and told them they messed something up. Refused they did anything to the max. Even bringing in a few techs to ask what it is. They were gladly willing to take a look, for a hefty fee however. I didn't even say no, I just left. Still fucking sloshes today. After I get home I look at the bill or receipt I guess you could say, to find out that on the bill was the VIN number from my car, my brothers name and red 2002 GTi on a receipt. Granted we both drive Volkswagens, however my 2002 SILVER PASSAT could never be mistaken for a red gti and my name isn't lewis. The name of the tech the service dept. brought in to ask about the sloshing was Mark or so said his cool little patch. Further review of the receipt, the tech who "worked" on my cars name was Joey/Joseph, something with Joe
The customers looking at the cars there are nicer and offer more help than the employees

VW FTL.
One of my friends diesel Jetta kept having the windows fall down. It was always completely random, and every time they took it back to the dealer they said it wasnt a big deal. IDK what was wrong with it, but they finally traded it in when the windows fell on a day where it was raining. Use ur imagination on how that came out...

All cars have their quirks, and VW's are certainly no exception. Not every car is perfect from the factory either. Remember that. Dealerships for the most part, with any make, usually don't know what's going on. Have you tried Royal VW on Lee Road? I, as well as many others go there, and they always take good care of us. Aristocrap is awful.

I go to Aristocrat since my car usually craps out when I'm leaving class or just barely getting there, and Aristocrat is less than a mile from there, conveniently for me the Subaru dealer is right next door. I heard good things about Royal, just too far for my car :banghead:

They are awesome cars, and I love mine to death, but they are not the most reliable thing in the world, being that mine is 22 years old and has 253,XXX miles on it. Also, it can get pretty expensive pretty quick if you don't know how to work on them yourself.
They are also pretty slow in a straight line, but are awesome around a track or auto-x course. The handling is awesome, and if you ask almost any professional race car driver about a 944, most have had racing experience in them and have nothing but respect for them.
Its also amazing how much sh** they can carry in the back. I have moved into and out of my dorm room with this car, and I laugh when I see everyone with their SUVs packed full of the same amount of stuff I have.
Just make sure you know what you are getting into if you get one. Also, I would recommend having another car as a backup or a daily driver.
It's a 1.8t Problem solved.

There will always be different experiences. I blew my 3.2 VR6 engine and they replaced it under warranty even with my reflashed ECU with the Redline bumped up. It cost them $25,000 in just parts to fix my car. That is NOT a typo. I doubt any other dealer would have gone through all the trouble that they went through.
I have another friend that had a 20th AE GTI that had his motor replaced under warranty after he blew it up at an auto-x course with an APR flash as well. They spent $8,000 to fix all under warranty.
Royal made me wait in the lobby for over 4 hours when the job took 30 minutes and I had made an appointment a week ahead of time. What the hell was the point of the appointment?

Whenever I meet someone and they say they want a VW, I just tell them they need to know the car if they want to have it live past two years. I think If I knew absolutely nothing about my car, I would have blown it up. Thankfully there are extensive amount of forums, that tell you what happened and why.
Though once I was driving on gandy and all the sudden my car decided to start shaking. I stopped, turned off the engine, turned it back on and everything was fine. These cars have a mind of their own, and they have attitude problems. When I drive slow, my car wants to kick and buck. But when I press the gas a little harder, she's happy.. bitch

Get a damn volvo.Cheap and realible as hell.Thats all i have had for a daily driver.Plus if you need any parts you can hit up the junkyards.
Volvo high mileage club ftw.
1.5 million miles on a coupe in NY
Even in order to get into there club you gotta have over 300k on the clock.
And also the fact that volvo's run forever. And rarely ever break down i have already put 7k miles on my 240 and never have had a single problem. And its got 121k on the clock and is 18 years old,And drives like a dream.

hahaha true,But like most modern cars 95+ are junk nowadays.Everything is so complicated even with the newest cars today.Hell even cars produced today you won't see on the road for 10 years.Thats a given.
Only thing i dislike about the old volvo's (before FORD bought them out) is there transmissions and there weak diff's.Other then that there solid cars and will last forever. Also the fact that volvo enginered there cars to last 14 years is awsome i doubt you run across that today. And yes most if not all newer volvos are junk. But if you get a volvo from 93-1980 it will last forever long as you take care of it.
Im willing to bet all the cars produced even today you will not see them on the road in the next 10-20 years.
Prove me wrong.....

Dude, what the hell are you doing to the car? I run my R32 with the likes of some exotics and have never had an issue.
Punching your dash, mature. Most people here with any euro will say that they have had issues in the past.
Others have told you to go to Royal, they will take care of you. But, you say it's to far. Then live with the service you get if your unwilling to go and try somewhere else.
Go to royal ask for Albert or Mike in the shop. Ask for Randy at the counter. Tell them Tony with the Blk R32 sent you. You shouldnt have any issues.

The 1.8T Passat is known for tons of problems. Some Volkswagen are good, some are bad.

My aunt's 1.8t passat is a 99.5 and there have been no major issues with the car. It runs great to this day. as said before...some have problems and some don't. your just less likely to have problems if you stay on top of them and maintain the vehicle. in fact, keep an eye out for her on the roads in Tampa because she drives like the only one in that color in tampa. It's like a teal blueish green that I never see on the passat.
as for the dealerships...I personally would take the car to euro specialty shop to help you with problems. small shops like rennen imports will be much more helpful than VWOA
