This is what my GTI looks like right now...

Stock ride height is rather TALL... I want to install coilovers, but my condo complex just put in a ****load of speed bumps that will prevent me from lowering it as much as I'd like... so that's going to have to wait till i move in November.

Rear swaybar is going in this week sometime, hopefully Thursday.

Intake is on order... long story about weak customer service...

I'll be chipping it shortly... maybe in a couple weeks, depends on how funding works out (its been a ****ty couple of months in the unexpected expenses dept...).

Windows are tinted to legal limit... and i swapped out the orange corners for clear with orange bulbs. Eyelids are going on this week as well.

Hell yeah that's nice. I just can't get past the new style though. I'm stickin' with the 99.5'-05' jetta's. Clean ride though, very nice !

I'm diggin' it, the only thing I might suggest is the clear bulbs that light up amber, but are clear until they blink. Thay way you dont have the "egg yolk" as so often seen... :-/ just my opinion.

nice whip...and the dirt helps give it that 4x4 look plus the angle of the pic...

looks good tho

Nice bro. Can't wait to see a nicely modded mk 5..
I've always had GTT love..

I like the new GTIs. The US version was risen .5 inches because of regulations. A chip is a must on turbo VWs! An APR chip put out like 240hp and 260tq!!! Can't wait to see the progression of your car.

Geez, that pic almost makes it look like a new Touareg. j/k
Nice car, though; dig the red accent around the grill.

lol, yeah, I took that shot intentionally to make it look huge... its at a job site for a house I designed (you can see the CMU walls going up in the bumper reflection).

I've also noticed the "egg yolk" color in the corners... I think I'm gonna order another set of clears, and pop em apart... and then paint the inside housing black (like the factory units) and then keep the orange bulb. The white housing looks goofy because it shows through.

As a temp alternative to coils, I've been kicking around the idea of just getting the Euro spec springs for now, but that's essentially doubling installation labor costs (i'm not dumb enough to mess with a spring install myself)...

When I chip I'm actually leaning towards the GIAC X+ programming right now... my local dealer (where I got this car) sells it and will still service the car (no need to get the module that will change it back to factory programming).

I WISH it was AWD! The new R32 MIGHT be coming over this year, but right now its up in the air... and the MSRP will probably be over 30k... whereas this came in at 24k... I'm not rich...

Do they all come with those fogs?

kelso
05-04-2006, 05:27 PM
im fairly certain the r32 will be shipped over, but dont quote me on that. dont mess with euro springs, just wait for the coilovers. youll have extra money for something else by then!

SlickShift
05-04-2006, 06:43 PM
I'm know that dealers can detect APR chips, but if the dealer approves of the GIAC X+ programming, go for it.

Springs will be fine. Coils may be overkill unless you want some specific look or need it for track or something...

FactorX
05-05-2006, 11:43 AM
Oh... I do plan on doing auto-x with this car... not quite yet... but eventually.

either that or find a Mk II GTI and build the heck out of that and leave this one fairly stock.

the fogs are stock on the GTI and GLI (jetta), as are the HIDs... :)

Here's a couple off my camera phone...

That's a NICE bimmer... a guy in our building has a blue M3 Convertable... SO hot... I was thinking about a 330 convertable, but the insurance was WAY too high (like 2600 a year!).

I'm still not sure about the new GTI's styling, but there's no arguing with the new power. The eyelids look good though.

Spring installs really aren't that hard. If you're the least bit mechanically inclined I wouldn't worry about messing it up or anything.

installed a Neuspeed rear Sway bar today... had to drop the exhaust a little to get it in there, which was NOT in the instructions...

also need to do something about the end-links... they're fine as far as side-loading, but aren't seating quite right and I get a little clunking noise when i hit bumps... :( My buddy who helped works at a VW dealer and is gonna get some better replacements this week.

I'm also de-badging it... front is off, but i need to clean up the grille behind it (its not wide open like the rest of the grille, a few cells are closed off to allow the badge to clip in).

Back will be debadged when i get some proper cleaner to take care of the adhesive... i don't wanna run around with it looking gooey.

nice lids I was looking at getting some are those the kamei ones? Did you paint match them or just spray them black? Also how are you going to debadge the back when the vw logo is the trunk latch. I am planning on anodizing all the logos black.

FactorX
07-21-2006, 01:08 PM
...

I used fishing line to remove the GTI badging... I am going to replace the VW badges with blacked out badges or paint them myself.

If you try to annodize them you'll be in for a treat, as the acid will totally destroy them... they're plastic... :nono:

I got the eyelids pre-painted Black Magic Pearl... the match perfectly, but it turns out the clearcoat was not good... lovebug got a direct hit on the freeway and stained one them... doh!
I got them from performance-cafe.com

tiger8u

Dang I obviously haven't looked into it that closely. I hadn't popped off the badges yet. Well I guess painting is the way to go then, thanks.

I think Im up for just the meet tonight, not really feeling like going out to the track tonight and going to the dyno on Saturday. Ive just been too busy! Ill call you after work and see what your plans are. A few other people that wanted to go cant go tonight either.

FactorX

I'd rather go when a decent sized group goes... so I'll pull the "they aren't going so I'm not either" card tonight...

regular meet should be good though, weather permitting. I was up in MI last weekend and missed both!

did you get the boost gauge in the drivers side ac vent or the steering column mounted one? What does the boost hit chipped?

Drivers side A/C Vent... it still allows really good flow though!

The column pods all block the console... So I opted for the expensive one... the AWE kit costs more than 2x the steering column mounted kits... but the install is clean, its a Omori (sp?) guage, and it matches the dash lighting perfectly!

The instructions and kit are very complete, I'd recommend this guage kit over the column kits hands down. Visibility is great too!

On 3rd gear pulls from 35 mph... it will hold at 20 psi! :) Which is right in the zone for the GIAC X+ Software.

From AWE's website...

Looks just like that... :boink:

Except I dont have the Euro version of the lightswitch yet (located below the guage... it allows more control of Daytime running lights and fogs).
