I am posting in the general forum since I am not sure how many members look at the track forum. Mods feel free to move it if this post does not belong here.
I have been on BB and FG for a while and was wondering who here goes to the track to do DE's or races?
I try to go as often as possible, mostly Sebring since it is close. But plan to go to Homestead, Barber and Atlanta before the year is over.
The reason I ask is with all of the money some of us spend on our cars and all the "cruising/drifting" that goes on at meets I would think that many of you would really enjoy going to the track. This is the best place to see what you and your car car really do.
I know LD goes but what about the rest of you? I know you may think it is expensive but after you drive on the track you will think it was some of tthe cheapest fun you could have with your clothes on. Additionaly, you will learn so much about your car and your abilities to control it.
Also it is much more fun to go to the track with a bunch of friends.
There is an event on the 24th at Sebring.

I will be there and if anyone wants to come down and check it out feel free. I will be more than happy to give hot lap rides to anyone who wants one. If you get there early enough you can do a track tour in your own car at lunch time.
Best,
Jordan

Hey, glad to see you posting a little!
If I had a car, I would probably be going out to them, but...I don't. Heh.
Those events sound pretty cool, and i bet some sweet cars show up as well.
The 24th is one of our large events, most of the people are going to that, but when is the next one after the 24th?

Just keep on looking at the Chin website.
Also you could still make the big meet and come down to Sebring. Just come down in the morning and take off after lunch. The drive is preety nice too. Just a bunch of farm roads.
I would post more but it seems to me at times topics seem to go off topic pretty fast. Besides I am kind of old compared to most of you, 39. I am a track junkie and that is where most of my interest lies.
I do love that there are so many car enthusiasts in our area no matter what you are interested in no matter what it is. I will try to make it out to a meet soon. Just don't do the Club thing anymore, married with 2 kids wil do that to you sometimes.
And yes, the cars that come out are incredible, just look at the entrants/roster.
What about that guy Sean? He has a track car right? I think I gave him a bunch of **** about it not being safe on BB. I would love to see it and maybe help him out with getting it sorted so it would be track worthy. He would have a blast at Sebring!
Best,
Jordan

I know you are in E. Just need to figure out what you want to do with the suspension. You know how I feel about it, 5 lug. But you could always run the 4 lug and then sell the stuff when you upgrade to 5.
Let me know if I can help.
Kelso, The track will make you humble. You really have no idea what goes on there until you get there and do it. Nothing at all like driving on the street. Get in a car with a good set up and R compaound tires and you will swear that you won't make it through the corners, but you do. I have given so many rides where the pasenger yells at me to slow down more than I do. After a few laps they get comfortable and enjoy the ride. Mike A is also a very good driver.
My offer is still open to anyone who wants to get some rides on the 24th. Once you do you will be hooked. Just trying to get you guys interested in going to the track.

Jordan

and thats why i wanna go haha. i used to race karts back in the day so i guess you could consider that like some "track time" but lately its just been tearing it up through twisty roads. like ive said before, im great when im comfortable but im slow and twitchy when im in a new area or something

Yeah the track days are definately WAY different than twisties somewhere or autoX. I rode with my dad last time I went out to sebring, and it was awesome! I know he'd be happy to give someone a ride too if he isn't taking out a student, so if you see the car just say you know me from "the bmw thing" lol. I wouldn't suggest riding with someone if you don't trust them or have a fear of high speeds and not being in control. I completely trust my dad, but if it was someone else I would've been like "aaaah wtf why are we sideways!?" lol.
Not sure if he's going to the 24th chin event, but I know he leaves for the Glen tomorrow. I would definately recommend going to a track day though, and even though it's $250 a day (I think) for Chin, it's better than BMOC, PCCA, and PBOC track days. Chin tries to get you 3-4 hours a day of track time which is plenty lol. If you want to do it yourself though, I highly, HIGHLY recommend getting R compound tires. The time you can pick up each lap is insane with good hoosiers or toyos or whatever you want to run.
I know I'm going to start working on learning to drive my dads car when I'm all healed up. I'm aiming at trying to do the late august or early to mid september chin event at sebring.

no offense but i think your rushing back into it. i mean i dont know how bad you are right now but by that time, youll probably have barely driven at all in how many months and you wanna go out on a track day in a track prepped porsche? your choice but from what i know doesnt sound too smart...

So Kelso you raced karts, that is fantastic! So you know what I am talking about. Although cars are different (slower to react) there are some similarities.
Hope to see you at the track sometime soon.
LD, I would NOT recomend R-compound tires for a novice. I would say at least 6-10 track events on street tires. They are more forgiving and let you know when you are at the limit a bit more than R-compounds. R-compounds have a steeper curve so when they let go they let go more sharply.
And LD I think as soon as your body is in good shape, the first thing you need to do is get out on the track! Just take it easy and it will all come back to you.
Best,
Jordan

Hahahaha I've been dying without racing in 3 months it's killing me lol. I started racing karts when I was 13 and stopped when I broke my collar bone (fyi ive got all the stuff for sale now lol... 2 karts, 3 engines (or maybe only 2 cant remember), and a trailer....). Then I started getting into the cars. My dad had actually signed me up for a chin track event the day I got in my accident *shoots self* lolz, I'm very unlucky. I dont know if he'll let me get back to racing that soon either, but I'll try to work it. Most difficult thing will be learning how to drive his car because it's not a good car to start on. Too track prepped for a novice, and the transmission is hard as **** to work lol.
