Neat, but no retractable hardtop and a higher price tag for 100lbs less. :thumbd: It might have racing seats and carbon fiber, but no manual or sequential manual means it's not the race car it's trying to be.

It does have a manual of sorts, just like the new M3's, it has shifters on the steering wheel.

actually Nick if you think about it since it doesnt have a retractable roof that means added frame rigidity... and then 100lbs less with more horses is a great thing because that means less lbs per horsepower even if it does have a heftier price tag (remember you are paying for the German quality) but i do agree the non manual or sequental is pretty queer, but then again thats Mercedes Benz for you :jerkit: they always think with their age and not their racing enthusiasm those b!tches

Well I installed it with David after school on thursday (well he kinda stood there while I installed it) and we tested it out. About a 2-6 mph pickup on each gear up through third, alot smoother power band, and the acceleration seemed alot better.... Also COBB says that a turboback exhaust with the accessport is 285 hp. I had that and an uppipe so 5-10 more hp (more around 5 lol).

Torque converter = automatic (Mercedes)

Automated manual shifting = SMG (BMW)

They're nothing alike.

  My prayers have been answered. Someone agrees SMG is not an automatic. :realmad: to the rest.

SMG is not an automatic it is a Sequential Manual

They are almost the same tranny. Just the SMG has the extra hydraulic clutch assembly thing on the back.http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/b/r/201.png

Like Dave's picture shows, they're similar but the SMG unit is a little larger. It's actually too big to fit in the new Z4 M Roadster's transmission tunnel!

Dave: Just think about replacing that clutch :D

6 speeeeeeeeeed.

it really is an automatic in my mind, you just manually change the gears. its like driving a tiptronic or similar system.... id rather have the clutch every single day unless i was at a track going for the fastest time.

i drove an smg m3 today.... yea its cool but id so rather have a real manual.
