I painted the blinker section of my taillight this morning. I used a old lens as a tester from when some asshole decided to hit me in the parking lot at work. Luckily it was just the taillight and no body damage. It was a light, even coat so the light will still show. I painted it in the booth with plastic fusion paint that adheres to plastic. Then, added one thin coat of auto clear. Can I get some opinions on this please.

looks pretty good, idk if you'll be able to see the blinker now though even with a light coat.

How about reverse that? Tint the red and leave the white untouched?

using the fusion paint will cover it right up, you will have no light shining through.
if you want the black look and still want the light to appear, then you have to use the spray specifically designed for that type of use. Tail light tint spray or something, search on ebay. NiteShades is probably the cheapest one and works fine.

i used some smoke tint spray that i got from ebay.
You can make it look "smoked" or totally blacked out by applying more layers or spraying closer or farther away.
On my car its pretty much totally black, but the dim bulbs still show through just the same as they did before spraying.
Pretty soon i'll be doing it to another car, so i'll make a DIY thread for everyone. Its really quite simple.

I'd do the whole tail light black if there weren't so many idiot drivers in this town. If someone hits you and theres a police report stating you have black taillights and the driver couldn't see lights insurance wont cover damages. I'll definitely reverse it, which is what I wanted to do originally but I don't feel like being harrased by cops. Ill try the nightshades and reverse it so that during the day you can still see some red. Thanks for all the advice.

a company makes plastic black covers, some three letter company..cant remember off the top of my head.
People have been known to use window tint. For the majority of the spray choice users VHT Niteshades is the paint of choice.
