I was driving down to citrus park mall and my fuking check engine light comes on. last time this came on was my starter and cost me mucho $$$ any ideas guys hwta it might be.:banghead: :evil:

you cant guess a code put a code reader on it and find out what it is for sure all check engine lights arent expensive i suppose if you took it to the dealership it would be

I've NEVER heard of a starter throwing CEL, especially when you're driving down the road...... :confused:

Yeah starter not likey, a code cause from the alternator is more probable.

shouldnt need to **** with a code reader.. with my car all i have to do is put the key on the ignition position and press the gas pedal 5 times consecutively i think you have to do it in under 5 seconds or something which shouldnt be a problem. the CEL will come on for a few seconds solid than it will start blinking. between each blinking it will pause momentarily and start again. it should have 4 blinkings to give you a 4 digit code.. so if it blinks like six times then 4 times then 2 times then 1 time your code is 6421

in my experience mechanics would be at the bottom of the trustworthy barrel
i guess a 98 means it would be OBDII.. someone around here should have a code reader.. if you have any other symptoms you know of let us know

could be something as simple as not having ur gas cap on tight enough....

Just go to a local auto store (autozone, ect) and have them hook up the OBD reader. It's free too! Go today and find out.

What Nick said. Mine is a bad O2 sensor ... all CEL's are supposedly emissions related. Don't trust mechanics.
