Here are some other pics I've been collecting of the GT2

i love how everything looks so bad ass while being incredibly useful unlike most cars...
I personally love everything about the car, the only thing i would change is that i would like to see 4 big bad pipes coming out the rear showing that the car means straight up business...

Sick...I wonder how much quicker than the Turbo it'll be. Without the AWD won't it be slower off the line?

thats what i figured, but im sure it comes with race slicks and huge ass tires in the rear... also being rear engined, all the weight in the rear helps give it grip

ya it is, it sounds like he starts to break a little and the tires squeal right as he gets up to the turn... i have watched it like 20 times and im drooling my ass off...

Yea, I've seen the video a few times and it could be tire squeal. Just about every video I've seen that contains roadcars on the ring has squealing tires in it. It must be one wild ride on that track!

i love the car, but honestly... im relatively unimpressed by the hp numbers. 500hp really isnt that big of a jump over the 420hp GT3RS

Yeah, but you can only get so much out of 6 cylinder and still have it be reliable.
LDadrenaline

its a turbod 6 cylinder though... you can get tons of hp out of turbos and have them still be reliable. im thinking 600hp wouldve been a better number to shoot for. carrera gt territory

ya but they have to leave some breathing room for the 998 when it comes out bc that will be an 8 Cylinder... Porsche has said before that it is achieving as much power as it can out of the current 6's

i still think thats bs. there are quite a few 500whp 4cyl subies running around. same boxer platform too, and 500whp isnt pushing it either

Perhaps I am wrong, but inserting an 8 cyliner into a 911 might alianate much of their sales. Granted, some people might not mind it if there was a change, but for many purists that is SIN. When the 996 was released, it was the first production water-cooled 911 of it's time..many hardcore Porsche enthusiasts were upset. Again, with the first 996 models (99-01), there was criticism coming from owners because they felt that the front end of the car had been compromised due to the headlamps. Specifically, snooty 911 owners had a hard time knowing that their 911s looked like boxters. Porsche did this for many reasons, primarily to cut costs down. At that point, Porsche was a relatively small company to what it is today. To fix the problem, the 996 underwent a face lift in 2002. These recent examples only lead me to believe that Porsche will lose some hardcore owners if they were to fit the 998 with an 8 cylinder. Personally, I dont see the switch happening with the next model...nor due I want it to happen. However, I could be very wrong (Porsche is on a financial roll right now..I.e. they could basically do what they want).I would also like to point out, that progression in technology is a neccesity. The first 911 Carerras had 4 cylinder engines in them. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

well your points are well validated and are very true, look at the E90/E92/E93 M3 which will carry a V-8. The first M3 was a 4-Cylinder and the latest ones have been I-6's and now its a V-8. I was pissed at first as well as most enthusiasts were about it, but now im fine with it simply bc it is necessary to keep up with the competition. Porsche will have to do the same thing eventually if not with the 998 in order to keep the product where it needs to be...
I still hate that the 911 is now water cooled instead of air cooled, but i understand that it is better for the car, and so will an 8-Cylinder later in life. It is basically how at 21 i know i dont need or want Viagra to try and have sex bc i dont have a hard time getting it up, but later in life i may need to take it to stay with the competition if im out there looking for girls... a 6-Cylinder does just fine but one day Porsche will have to put a little bit of Viagra in the 911's engine bay (meaning a V-8) to keep it humming along and competing with everyone else...

Well put! I agree with having to evolve in order to keep up with competition. An 8 cylinder might be the next logical step. However, the current 997 releases approx. 325bhp, and the S model releases 355bhp. When Porsche released the X51 power upgrade for the 997S, the figures went up to approx. 380bhp (matching that of the 996 GT3). Furthermore, Porsche mechanics and other officials later admitted that the X51 was merely how the engine should have performed. In otherwords, the X51 was an easy way for Porsche to add more options (more $$$). The current GT3 shells out something of about 410 bhp. It still has a 6 cylinder engine, and is lighter than the upcoming E92 M3. Granted, the GT3 is a more hardcore 911 than the rest, but it still exemplifies the potential of the flat six. My other concern, is in regards to the size and weight of an 8 cylinder. Although horizontally opposing one more cylinder doesn't seem like much ( I am not a professional mechanic by any means), it does seem like alot of work and re-engineering for a model that is set to be released in a few years. In fact, the 911's facelift is rumored to be released next year as an 09. Fitting a whole new engine might cause the current car to be altered significanlty in terms of weight, suspension, aero-dynamics, etc. Although this is what car companies do, Porsche has always been great at refining it's "recipe" for the perfect sports car. By altering it, Porsche better be certain that it is absolutely perfect. Many car companies try to come up with competitors, and although the create some nice competition....many car magazines and critics tend to prefer the 911. Changing up that recipe might lead to an un-easiness in critics and buyers. However, this is life and we must evolve and take risks. Regardless of whether they change the engine or not, I will hopefully be in line to test drive it :D. Ever since I was a child and I took my first ride in a Porsche (964), I have been hooked. Porsche, had me at VROOM.

i would just like to point out, these are the kinds of car discussions that i love having online here. well thought out posts that are not meant in argument but in just good old fashioned car enthusiasm. with that being said i agree 100% with you. i too would hate to see an 8-Cylinder over a 6 but if it has to be done than i will be all for it. just remember that the BMW M3 V-8 weighs less than the outgoing I6 and weighs less than any other V-8 in the world  and i know Porsche could do the same and then some. I love how Porsche can take its past history and evolve it to fit the present times but still remain reverent to its past philosophies. either way, with a Flat-6 sitting out back or a Flat-8 i cant wait to see what Porsche does next and how they somehow as always make the perfect car

Definitely! I did not mean this post in a bad way at all. In fact, I feel the same way. I am such a fan of both BMW and Porsche that I am confident that both the E92 and the upcoming 998 (should it have an 8 cylinder) will be something remarkable.
BTW, I would like to point out that I am a member of another car forum called Rennteam. We have discussions such as the one we just had on all kinds of Porsches and other sports cars. If anyone is interested, here's the link http://www.rennteam.com (http://www.rennteam.com)
