My radiator = toast. I'm going to drop some cash on an upgrade, I've heard good things about Zionsville's, check it out. (http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=6134&Product_Code=NP-ALLOYRAD&Category_Code=CCSE36)

100,7XX. Minw happenned at eighty or so. I have no idea how much (if any) damage was done to the engine. I noticed coolant steaming (hard to see at night while driving 80mph) before I saw that my temp gauge was pegged.

Yea after ~90k miles all e36 radiators go pop! They suck!
Mitch most likely it's okay unless it was pegged for over a minute...

most e36s will stall out after its overheating for a while so it wont damage any thing, and it wont let you start it back up untill it cools down a bit.
you should be fine

Why do they use plastic?
1. Cheaper
2. To get you to come to BMW for service to fix it.

3. And take your money.
4. That's right, all of it.

E36 heads are notorious for cracking/warping when overheated, so be REALLY careful when you see your needle creeping past 1/2.

Rads are easy to replace, just be careful not to cut yourself.
do a coolant flush at the same time.

plastic rads arent bad you just have to use the proper coolant for them most people dont so they fail prematurely mine failed at 280k after i stopped using bmw coolant because my intake had a coolant leak and my lazy ass didnt fix it and just kept filling it with cheap coolant and 6 months later same scenario on i 95 coming back from miami at night i heard the noise when the neck broke off but i didnt see any steam at 80mph u wont see any but in my case the needle pegged for a couple of seconds than went back down to the middle because it had no water left in it it was just gettin air temp so i kept going till i saw the smoke and by then it was too late the head had cracked.all that just from using cheap coolant

I was lucky enough to have a car behind me at night. I caught a glimpse of the steam because of it. Sorry to hear that man!
