Update, got the car torn apart, and timing issue fixed, and then put back together (thanks Jake), car idles perfect, and runs like a dream. Time to get some mileage on her.

Took her for a little drive today. Took some quick vidz. Dyno and track to follow shortly.

Question guys would the leak be while driving only, and not when revving cause when I rev or hold gas while not moving, I get no whistle.

well as you move and stuff youre forcing alot more air through the pipes and putting more stress on the engine to produce power. id assume it would only be while driving because of that, but if anything you may get a quiet whistle while idoling. not really sure though, id wait for ryan to reply

Thought about that too, it's only while in boost, If I accelerate when not in boost no whistle. If it were an exhaust leak how do you locate them?

ryan is replying now, but.... theres a few ways. you can put baby powder over where pipes meet up, or ive heard of using some kinds of spray. just to see when air comes out. like i said before, since its so loud and high pitched id assume its an uppipe leak, but not really sure.

Turbos don't build boost without load. If you notice, when you free-rev in neutral, you wont build appreciable boost at all. The turbo will spin up, yes, but without load, you aren't pressurizing the system.

If you have a small exhaust leak, revving in neutral won't build up enough pressure between the manifold and the turbo for air to be forced out through the leak. However, under load, when you have FAR more exhaust flowing, and that same tract is pressurized, air will leak out of that small opening.

The fact that the sound went away when you let off the throttle makes it pretty clear to me that it's an exhaust leak. You let off, the pressure behind the turbo dropped, and the leak stopped, well.. leaking.

I say put your car up on jack stands, fill a spray bottle with soapy water, and spray it on ALL of the flanges/connections in the exhaust system. Start up the engine, and look for bubbles (or even spray while the engine is running - just don't let the engine run too long before you start spraying or the water will just evaporate before bubbles can form). Also, if you drive long enough, and there's a leak, you'll see carbon deposits at the leak site. Easier to notice, but that'll take some time.

Use soapy water, plain water makes virtually no bubbles really. If you need to do this that is.

Something is seriously not right with that whistle! Ive been around a few boosted BMW's now and none of them have made anything close to that noise! Something is for sure wrong, it being an exahust leak, Im not so sure. Its something though and hopefully you fix it before I run with you again. I couldnt hear shit when I was next to you a few weeks ago, it made me want to lose just to get away from the schrill! :D
