OK guys, I'm going to brag a little...

I just got done COMPLETELY detailing my car. I mean i spent about 8 hours doing the mother ****a and holy sh1t.

First, washed the car using mcguire's gold class car wash (use it almost everyday with these damn love bugs around my house and in the trinity area...:realmad: )

Second, I used mothers clay bar with the spray that came with it. At first I was sceptical to how a little piece of clay will take off so much crap in the paint.. i.e. - scratches, dirt, scuffs, etc. But holy sh1t OMG! wow.. I couldn't believe it. Stuff the dealer said they couldn't get out, I got out with a little elbow grease.... I have what some people call sun cancer of my car.. and there are little like bubbles? in the paint, this clay bar got damn near close to getting rid of it completely. Some of you have seen (felt) the car before, and you know what I'm talking about. I'm just amazed.

Third, I used mcguires car polish, just for a little extra shine.

Fourth, I used mcguire's cleaner car wax, to smooth the car up just a tad more.

Fifth, more polish.

I'm so proud of how good the car looks. :woot:

Also: I changed my stock black lugs to chrome ones....I'm officially "BALLER STATUS"

with that I fixed the wheel well lining again, I guess it doesn't like staying on at 155 mph.... :dunno:

Once again, just bragging a little, if anyone knows what I could do/should have done... let me know, I wanna get this thing looking REALLY good... better than it already does.

if theres any mis-spellings or anything ignore it, its 3:40am.

:flip: :flip: :flip:

I'm glad it came out so well. There's nothing better than a clean car (well, a couple things). And Trinity love bugs FTL!

Just be careful when you are going to town with a claybar. If it isn't lubed enough or you put too much pressure, it will leave a very hard to remove residue on your paint. You are really only supposed to glide it over the paint with light pressure.

Great looking E36 by the way.

Hell yea, I did a claybar about 6 months ago, isn't it crazy how smooth it makes the paint? Like better than a wax even! I think doing it once a yr would be good maintenance and it's a long job like you said.

top panels are all you really have to do most of the time becuse thats where everything settles. just fyi, clay wont remove scratches, only contaminents. if you want advice on what to do next, id say go on ww.autogeek.net and order some stuff. they have the top of the line waxes and polishes and stuff. clay magic is my favorite clay and im gonna try to get some soon...

im still learning a lot on the autogeek forums but i think if you put on some wolfgang sealant and top that with pinnacle souvaran paste wax, you will probably have sex with your car:clap:

for anybody else thats skeptical, claybar does = woot...times 100!

Paul: I had to go to court today... tried driving 5 under the speed limit the whole time so love bugs wouldn't kill my sexy job (didn't work :'(). I'm so pissed, oh well, time to wash it again.. ha ha. I a good method of keeping/removing bugs without washing it everyday... it gets tiresome.. I will take pics tomorrow morning so you guys can see the shiny sexy beats that is E36 M3! :) :woot:

Are you sure it is good to clay it when it is as new as yours?

clay wont harm it, but it might be semi- useless if you have taken care of it. if you havent taken much care of it the first few months then just clay it.

dvae its gonna have to wait till i get back from costa rica. i figured we would get it done at jims but hey the rims are good!

 whenever you are ready. Maybe I will give it a whirl myself. Chris or Paul will help, they have done it before.

Clay is fine to use and actually recomended to use on a brand new car. It was developed to remove "rail dust". Rail dust is exactly that, tiny metal particals that that get impregnated onto the cars surface when they are transported by train.

When I get back from vacation I'm gunna do the "finger inside the plastic bag" trick to see if there are any contaminants on the paint.

TheDarkSide
07-15-2006, 01:24 AM
WTF is that?

SlickShift
07-15-2006, 03:27 AM
After you wash and dry the car you get a plastic bag and put your finger in it; then run it across the paint. If you feel bumps and stuff, then you have a lot of contaminants on the paint.

You could just rub your finger across the paint, but the plastic bag makes the contaminants more noticable.
