I guess it isn't -totally- breaking news. Wasn't it kind of common knowledge that hack-job places like Jiffy Lube try to get you to do unnecessary work, and often don't do it right, or don't do it at all? Either way, sucks for Jiffy Lube. Well, sucks more for all the people getting ripped off by them! :thumbd:

Wow, what dirtbags. Just like the saying goes, "If you want it done right, you do it yourself."

This news station (KNBC 4 in LA) set up an undercover investigation of Jiffy Lube. They took a bunch of different cars to 9 different jiffy lube locations to have work done, and then watched to see if they really did it. With one of the cars, an employee recommended chaning the fuel filter, due to the mileage of the car. Before the news crew had gone in, though, they had dropped the fuel tank and marked a "4" on the top of the filter. When they got the car back, the 4 was still there. Owned. Then there were other scams, like them suggesting a full flush of the transmission fluid, using this special machine that hooks up to the transmission fluid lines and pumps it all out. Well, at 5 out of the 9 locations, they watched from across the street, and the workers never even pulled out the machine, and never touched the transmission lines.

Later, when they confronted the workers or managers about it, they just said to talk to the district manager. Well, they found the district manager at one of the Jiffy Lubes, but he denied being the district manager (When asked what car was his, he pointed to a red camaro, then the news crew found the guy who actually owned it. Busted). They ended up getting all of their money back from Jiffy Lube, but still, think of all the other people who have been ripped off.

this is why you should have mechanic friends who wont screw you, or do it yourself. everyone should have atleast a little knowledge of mechanical work... so people cant mess with your head and upsell you on unnecessary crap. screw jiffy lube

This is 1 of the main reasons I do everything myself. And you wonder why most ppl think high mileage = bad, seems most of the time the real maint. to keep the car running right is never done!

HA I say! HA!

This reminds me of the Dane Cook skit about car mechanics. "There was a small unicorn ****ting in your filters."
