View Full Version : Magnaflow poop shoot for my car

Well, I'm a valid member, but all 4 of my cars were made in Japan (Toyota City 1-3, Hiroshima 4) so its not like I have a section to post my irrelevant vehicle.

But yeah.

http://www.tamparacing.com/photopost/data/500/medium/Poop-shoot.jpg
1) Bolt on? Bull shit.

2) Exactly how an exhaust should be. Only audible on acceleration, and even giving it some wont make it too loud. Sounds exactly like stock, but a bit deeper, which is good.

3) 4" tip is definitely excessive, but its tapered so its tollerable. I'd be happy if it was 3" or even just 3.5" as it is...taper = looks good though.

4) Power? I dont think I got much at all. I really cant tell, but if I did, it is overridden by the sound. I was hoping for a bit more, but I cant complain.

Was it worth it? Yeah, I like hearing the exhaust, and I definetly maintain that Magnaflow is the best exhaust company out there. It reminds me of driving the Supra. I'm not as quick to give it 80% throttle as I was because of noise polution, but I will if I have to. I am concerned of the extra attention I will be getting.

looks like a good size for the bumper, not too big i dont think.

today i got to drive a mazdaspeed mx-5(off topic) and i must admt it was freakin amazing... i scared the shit out of the cars owner though, i was pushing his car to the limit on a twisty ass road, spoolin that turbo out of every corner haha...i think thye could use a slightly bigger exhaust though..

extra attention from who? Have you only revved it in your driveway or something? You arent driving a cam'ed pushrod V8 with open headers. I'm glad you like the way your car sounds now but dont be afraid to open it up!!!

my car has 3" straight piping all the way back to a Flowmaster 40-series muffler. No cats, resinators, or any of that garbage.
When I start my car up at my house every day people can hear it from the next block over. It literally shakes the whole house just idling in the driveway. And what do I do when I leave? full throttle all the way down the street baby :D :D :D

Anyhow... I think your choice looks great on the car, and im sure the Rota's will look awesome too... a friend of mine has a later model miata with all black Rota's. I can find you a pic if you want, they look great. The Tien's are also going to make the car look great :thumbu:

Orion ZyGarian

Extra attention from anyone with a fart can or remotely modded exhaust..police not so much because I only drive like a dick in heavy interstate traffic and its because people dont understand "slower traffic keep right" and if someone hits (taps?) their brake lights 50ft ahead of them, it doesnt mean slam yours on, especially when you're in the left lane doing 10-15 under.

Isnt your car turbo though? I bought my Supra with full 3" straight pipes and it was just a bit louder than this actually..now its open turbo cause I'm lazy, and still quieter than many N/A cars with a Folger's

Pics are cool!

I think thursday I'll be putting the Teins on since its open shop night...guy that works in the stall next to me used to work at Mini and had an awesome Mini..so he's more 'suspension' than 'go' I'd say and was almost as happy as me about the Teins..I'm sure he'll lend a hand and we'll have them on in a few hours, maybe even aligned with our machine too! I still have to fix the fender (called a place or two, emailed even more...waiting on word) before I put my tires on the wheels and stuff. I'll do that when I get the time.

944attack
01-22-2007, 08:55 PM
ah i see.

..nope, my car is a N/A, but even the 944turbo's sound loud, very similar to the N/A. I have always wondered why some cars can be open headers and loud as a banshee and some are relatively quiet like you explain. Also, same thing with pressure from out the exhaust.... my car you can feel puffs of exhaust standing 15 feet back, whereas some cars you can barely even feel the air coming out if you hold your hand an inch away from the tip. Oh well

here's the first pic i found of josh's miata with the rota's. I'll look for more with better closeup shots.

Screw people who can`t drive. I`d be pretty pissed if that happened to me...:dunno: But what can you do?

Orion ZyGarian
01-22-2007, 09:09 PM
Dude it was on the way to SCTI...I was cruising in the left lane (being aware that if someone wanted to pass, I was more then ready to get in the right lane) and I see this Crown Vic slowly pulling out...whoop de do, cars always pull out onto the road. Besides, the right lane was empty.

So she goes halfway in the right lane then decides the left lane is better...which is beyond me...

I was fortunate in that I didnt act on my emotions, but just a few days earlier I spent 3 hours washing and waxing her! Needless to say I hadnt layed a finger to clean up the exterior again till just saturday where I gave her a good pressure wash and soap brush scrub.

I cant complain. Thats where I got the money for all this crap anyways..

Oh yeah, and I was thinkin' some time we should meet up for a photoshoot when I replace the crunch zone. Jetty's is always cool, hell heres a spur of the moment pic way back when I was driving the Supra daily:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v120/OrionZyGarian/ego2.jpg

Needless to say I got tired of the ricey fart cannon and sold everything behind the downpipe, and have been too lazy to put the downpipe back on, hence open turbo

Hodge
01-22-2007, 09:21 PM
Hell yeah. We gotta go do a photoshoot somewhere! I want to wait till I do my suspension though, otherwise it will look like a damn jeep next to your Miata/Supra.

You never know about these hop-a-longs that drive around these parts. I almost get hit everyday. I am seriously thinking about getting a beater just to commute, so nothing happens to the E30.

I am seriously thinking about getting a beater just to commute, so nothing happens to the E30.

Ironically thats how I ended up with the Miata! The Miata IS my beater...my problem (advantage? smart decision for better driving experience?) is that I only buy decent cars with potential and are loads of fun. All of my cars have been RWD, DOHC, stout, all but one 5 speed, built in Japan...and had flip-up lights :shhh:...it just turned out that way!

But yeah. Once I can finally secure a fender, I'll bolt that sucker on and then wheels and coilovers. I really dont care about what my car looks like for the most part (its actually been that way for 4 monthes now...holy shit!!)

Hodge
01-23-2007, 09:04 PM
Yeah but my problem is that my car is too nice to be a beater. I am looking into this very taken care of E36 318i 4-door 5 speed that is around. I`d use that as my daily and another really huge advantage would be the kick ass gas mileage compared to mine! 4-banger M44 FTW!

VERY true, cleanest E30 I think I've ever seen. I love your car dude!

Remember that the 4 door M44 is the slowest car ever made by BMW btw :lmao:(not to be taken literally) and you might need to think twice about whether or not you really want to sacrifice a fun car that you WANT to drive in long distances vs. a car that you sorta feel like you have to just to save a few bucks.

It just so happens my car is light enough with a dismal 1.6L that it will scoot when I rev it high enough, and that I get a consistent 33-35 mpg every time, regardless of driving habit. Its also weird, but I think I got 20 more miles to a half tank with this exhaust...so I have to monitor that over time to verify that.

Miatas sure as fuck arent for everyone...but I'd say of my two cars, the Supra is the best combination of affordability, number produced, fastest, rareity, looks, RWD/5speed, ease of working on, safety, cruising, daily drivability, full of potential etc. out there.

The Miata is the ultimate daily driver, as it is the lightest, cheapest, most common RWD/5 speed car out there with the best mileage and little to no comprimise for long trips. Not to mention, despite the stereotype, who are the REAL owners of Miatas? 80% are over 50 and take extremely good care of them! I still cant believe how often they are overlooked among people who know the best chassis to fool around with is a light cheap RWD car

[/life story]

Hodge

lol

Actually, I am sure the 318i would give a Miata a good run for it`s money (rofl @ the low horsepower war goin on here; feel like a damn ricer ). Probably the best thing about the 318`s are the engines. Friggin things are bulletproof. I really wouldn`t feel like I HAD to drive the car anyways. I drove a Z3 with an M44 and loved it. Plus having a 4-door with grand gas mileage would be good for later college travelling purposes, and could leave my E30 at home, where it could be driven once in a while. Another plus would be that I`d still be driving a Bimmer, which I probably won`t ever NOT do. :alright: Ah what the hell, I`m hooked on the things. It`s a serious addiction.

And your very right abot the Miatas. I really only ever see old men driving them (no offense :D ), because some people don`t realize how good they actually are. Only thing I really don`t like about them, is how small they are. I thought the Z3 was small, but damn. They are a pretty awsome car though, especially for a daily. Good ol` Japanese reliability kicks in there.

Your Miata is pretty sweet, especially once you get a few more things done to it (i.e: your coil-overs on and what not...hell you already got your beast exhaust on there! I gotta hear that thing).

Orion ZyGarian
01-23-2007, 10:35 PM
Exhaust surprised me. It sounds a bit like your car, but deeper if anything actually. Low redline for its size (nearly the same as my the 83x91mm undersquare Supra engine) @ 6500...but yeah.

Smallness rules. It has its disadvantages (headlights from the rear, people claim its hard to see, being that they are too oblivious to acknowledge it, and you can hear it coming now anyways) but the advantages out weigh them (low weight + rotating/unsprung mass, excellent mileage, never have to park twice, park places you shouldnt i.e. between two improperly parked cars, even if it means you have to exit via convertable top XD

I dont blame you for sticking with BMWs. I originally thought German engineering was overcomplicated and rediculous, but it turns out that BMW overengineers their stuff and makes it friendly as Toyota/Mazda does as opposed to Mitsu, Subaru, VW, and Merc-Benz.

I will admit the first thing I thought of swapping in was an S14, followed closely by a 2.3 DISI turbo via MS3 and MS6

Hodge
01-24-2007, 05:36 AM
lol put a Metric Mechanic S14 in there....285hp of 4-cylinder action!

My car is kinda loud, even though it is stock exhaust....must be those rust holes! :D

The reason BMW does it right, is because they are the only independant company left really. They don`t have ohter companies watching over them, telling them what to do, like Mercades has to kind of do now with Chrysler. The day BMW is taken over, is the day their cars go very far down a slippery slope.

Orion ZyGarian
01-24-2007, 06:09 AM
Fortunately, I doubt that'll ever happen. They have a stout, obsessive fan-base (of course, I'm the one telling you), a life long tradition, and just keep doing things that--if not right--are pretty close.

Who the hell else makes ONLY RWD cars, much less Inline 6s, the best IC piston design by far..

BMW is too big anyways. They also make motorcycles, own Mini, Rolls-Royce, industrial engines, etc. etc. Its not like Ford where they dont have much outside Volvo, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Lincoln-Mercury, and parts of Mazda.

Hell Toyota just started making modular houses for people! Look how well they are doing...enough to fund something like that

I think the closest thing to a slippery slope we'll see is Chris Bangle styling, which will eventually even out anyways (new X5s, E92s, etc.)

Hodge
01-24-2007, 02:47 PM
I really don`t dislike Bangle`d BMW`s, but I really think the back of the new 3-series 4-doors are pretty ugly. The rest of it looks good though...But other than that, I think all the others look neat...especially the Z4 Coupe and new 3-series coupe. Those are both badass looking.

AzzMan
01-24-2007, 06:41 PM
I like Bangle designs, you're all just haters.

Orion ZyGarian
01-24-2007, 06:41 PM
I think its ironic that I'm not too pleased about Bangle styling, but I really like the Z4 andstuff.

I can tollerate it, but still often prefer the older versions...E39, E46 coupe..otherwise I dont mind. I like the Z4 (especially coupe) more than the Z3, the E90 over the E46 sedan (I actually am rather fond of the E90...I find it MUCH more appealing than the E92) , the new E70s are real nice as well; just dont even think about trying to work on them.

What was fun though is the '81 E28 we got in today...guy doesnt care, "if the car needs it go ahead and do it." It's got Recaros, front strut bar, 5 speed conversion (with R where 1 should be) 4 point harness', SOHC hotness...and now, working A/C w/R134a lol.

Well tomorrow I'll be putting the tires on the new wheels. I might see if it'll fit the suspension as is, especially since it rained (uber dangerous) and I need new tires, and it'll be probably at least next thursday before I can put the Teins on. Might only be front or only rear anyways too.

Im in a modded e46 m3 and we recently got the e60 m5 from southpoint as well........Im think in my mind what an asshole, I bet I could get him fired with one phone call.... anyway I was pissed before that because I was checking out the 335 coupes there and a salesmen walks outside makes eye contact with me, says nothing and walks back inside............ its funny because something similar happened when the parrents were shopping for a new car, they went to southpoint (this was about 2 years ago) Bolton with a briefcase full of money in hand(which the dealership did not know) and they would not let them test drive a single car, needless to say they went to the Merc dealership, then pulled back into Southpoint with a new SL55(mom) CLK55(sister) and said something like thanks for the business.....

99% of 4 banger owners slap it with a fart can or flat out do the exhaust wrong...so thats why its different.

None whatsoever...no odometer or trip either.

My Supra came from the factory auto; the firewall badge still insists the car is automatic. For whatever reason, the previous owner never connected the speedo cable...claimed I needed an adapter or some bullshit.

I've never had a problem with it though...yes for gas mileage curiosity and documenting mods and whatnot, but I know that 3k RPM in 5th gear means 75 mph...and thats all I need to know:lmao:

I knew a dude with an Echo that had no tach...my friend with a 2G Camry doesnt have a tach either.

I had worded that wrong though; I do phyiscally have a speedo, though no input to it. It would be weird for Toyota's flagship to not have a tach or speedo :p
