Geez, the only time I saw a Z8 was in The World is Not Enough. If I may ask, where does all this money come from? IE, WTF do your parents do?

Thanks...the car really is very clean...
5700 normal Z8's were made in total...the normal BMW Z8's were fitted with the S62 and a 6-speed transmission...
However, Alpina made their own version of the car where the engine was swapped out for a 4.8 liter that they tuned...they also put different wheels on the car, changed out the transmission, and did some other interior things...
Alpina built a total of 550 "Alpina V8 Roadsters" and sent around 450 to the US...we have #410.
Our's is a 2003 with 8,000 miles on it...the last owner is a great guy...huge car enthusiast...:)

To be honest, nah...I'm not familiar with them...want to fill me in? :D
I did read practically everything on the interent before we got the car, though...STAY AWAY FROM THE POT HOLES! ;)

I've heard about the Z8 and the bent frames. I'm assuming the one you got is fine, but has BMW given you any special warranty? Truely beautiful car though. Just like the classic 507 :D

If you knew how much I wanted to kill you, you would sell all of your possessions, move to a third world country, employ a full time team of body guards, and live deep underground.

I love the 507 so much...probably my favorite roadster ever. Jaguar XKE comes in a close second...
As for the warranty, it's more of a special - "We do it depending on the circumstances" - type of thing that BMW has done...ours is fine...I already did the test on it (using long shafts threaded to the shock tower mounts measuring if they are parallel)...anyway, I took pictures, have them documented, dated, and photographed the mileage...so if anything does happen in the future...it's all on BMW NA to fix it...:D
Oh, and there is the run of the mill 100k mile extended warranty also...only 92,000 more miles to go! ;)

Would strut tower braces help prevent the problem?
It's possible...I know that it probably wouldn't hurt...;)
I'll search around and see if there isn't one already out there...if not, then I'd probably be able to fabricate one...

I will look on the Z8 forum. Not the parts but if you get the stages completed they were hacking the hell out of your frame and panels or whatnot and doing crappy weld jobs. The pictures do the justice. Give me some time...

Dave, I will defend Steve Dinan on this one.
For some reason an unapproved header install from an E39 M5 got approved, and the ridgidity of the chassis was compromised because of a change that had to be made. There were some affected cars.
Steve offered 3 options to affected Z8 owners, it was something like buy the car back from them for 20K over msrp, fix it to better than new and fit it with funn dinan stuff, and something else. You could basically ask for whatever made you satisfied. I will scan the article if I get a chance.
He lost like 300K of his own money just to make the situation right again, impressive I say.

Wait...Dave is talking about "Dinan" here? It crossed my mind that he might have meant them, but I didn't think they'd actually be messing around with Z8's...
Anyway...I've always heard good things about them...minus their pricing...but it sounds like he did the right thing in the end. :)

Oh, well...they changed the wheels around, changed the suspension geometry, took the S62 out and put the B10 engine in, swapped out transmissions, did A LOT to the interior, and I think they even played with the gear ratio...
Anyway...if you want to read more about it...this is a good write-up on it. :)

Different strokes for different folks, I guess...Alpina has always been known to do weird little things to cars, and they love their automatic transmissions and their neverending torque engines...
The nice thing about the B10 engine is that the torque comes in much lower...at 5500 rpm instead of 6200 like it does in the S62...so you do get more power down low...:)
Anyway...the Alpina isn't all about going fast...it's just a "boulevard cruiser". :)

Awesome car. It's an auto though, right? I'd rather the normal 6-speed Z8 :dunno:.
I've seen a black Alpina Z8 in South Tampa a few times. Snapped a few pics of it with my camera phone once when it was parked at the Starbucks on Howard.
Nice...I got to drive one for a few years, the TQ is awesome. Wait until you throw it around corners...One hint. I hope they did something about the covers on the inside of the hardtop, they fly off if you go with the windows down. Also, invest in a OEM windshield sun shade. The dash close to the driver's side windshield separates if it sustains a lot of heat.
