Continentals FTL...
I chunked a 7" strip of tread off of my tires tonights.... :-/ it was fun though... lol :dunno: :(
Those do suck, go either with Pirelli Nero m+s or Michellin pilot sports a+s...no need for the summer tirs, they wear like crazy.

How'd you tear it?
I agree with E31, the Nero's are awesome tires.. They lasted me awhile on previous cars.

I was doing some sliding after the track... there was some party going on with a buncha girls with b/fs and just one big makeout orgy so I was like screw this who wants to go sliding?
I tried to drift into this entrance and slide the car in some gravel, and I think thats what tore like a strip off of my tire.... Like the little water channels in the tread, well like now part of the tire doesn't have the little rubber strip that separates the 2 water channels... I'll get a pic...
It gets wobbly at like 45+ and I gotta drive to Tampa today :( bah
I'm getting 19x9 and 19x11s with Michelin pilot sports, but not until Christmas/birthday.... soo I think I'm gonna have to forkout and buy a single new continental for the rear

you didnt get the $400 tire warranty with the car? my dad got me the tire warranty when he bought my E46 and it worked out perfect too bc i needed 3 new tires within the year and 2 months i had it... i hate Conti's, if i ever get another Bimmer, the first thing im doing is switching to Michelin's or the Pirelli's, bc i have heard nothing but awesome stuff about those 2 tires for BMW's, MB, Infiniti's and many more...
i think each Conti Sport tire for the M5 is like 350 bucks, am i correct? you should check into the tire warranty with the dealer you go to, i think its a worthy investment... you pay around 400 dollars and your dealer will have that warranty on file for whenever you come in there with tire issues and take care of it...

I have Michel Pilots on my car, and they're strong handling even in the ****ty Florida rains. I've never pushed the car to slide though, since I just have a wee-automatic tranny.

i had a cont take a crap on me . the car didnt feel right as soon as they went on . and after 2k miles i was driving across a desert in AZ and the sidewall just blew out . no nails in it or anything . replaced that one tire and the car felt totally different

It all depends on what you are doing...but as bad as it sounds, the best all around tires are usually the ones that run (depending on size) between 150-300 depending on what you want. Anyway, I've always heard good things about PS2's and Eagle F1 GSD3's...

After doing a HELL of a lot of reading about tires I could get as ALTERNATIVES to the Michelin PS2 due to their excessive cost, I came to the following conclusion:
There are none.
That said, I think the Eagle F1's have got to be as close as it gets.

No pics yet... I'll get some tomorrow... it looks kinda bad, but its not that bad... Although no more sliding... lol
I drove to Tampa today from Ft. Myers... when you get to 45-50 it starts to get wobbly and bumpy... Its more of an annoyance than a problem... until you get to 110-115, then it starts pulling and wobbling back and forth across the lane, its really bad at that speed, even at like 80 if you talk your voice gets all bumpy lol!
I'm just gonna fork out and buy one new tire for the left rear, because I want to go to the Fantasy of Flight next weekend with the M5... Then for Christmas/Birthday I should have a set of Fiske profil 10s black with polished lip 19x9 and 19x11 with the Pilot sports for rubber... will be nice :)
Until then, looks like I'm not really going to be able to slide much in fear of the right older tire going out and having to buy 2 new sets... at least until the new wheels come... then its hayday :)
Oh about the tire insurance, I am aware of it, and didn't get it because I was going to get the wheels soon after buying it, and some family issues with our current constructions slowed it down... The insurance doesn't carry over... it only covers the bmw wheels and tires, and it doesn't carry if you get new wheels so I didn't bother on it since I was getting new wheels.
Not sure if I'm gonna drive it to sonic and carting... depends if my parents investigate, if they see it they'll freak out probably and not let me drive it lol

just replace all 4 corners with something cheap and good. Everyone raves about the pilot sports, but theyre expensive as hell. The Kumho Ecsta MXs and Falken 430s (I think those are the right ones) are some of the best cheaper tires. Check tire rack for ratings and prices, but I'm sure 4 Kumhos would cost about the same as one continental

I found tires that were ALMOST as good... but they had either worse treadware (like 140!), and in almost all cases MORE WEIGHT, and when you're talking unsprung weight thats bad... most tires were 3-5lbs heavier than the PS2.
I'm upgrading to 19" lightweight wheels soon (20lb front 21lb rear) and if I don't get the PS2 I kind of kill the weight advantage going with aftermarket 19's over my oem 18's.
If you don't drive your car all that hard to take advantage of the extra performance almost any tire will probably cut it though.
M5Beast
09-30-2006, 12:55 PM
Yeah my new wheels are most likely going to be heavier... The same size Fikse's weight less, but I'm going from 8.5 and 9.5 to 9 and 11 lol
I think the extra tread contact will makeup for little bit more unsprung... I'm hoping itll help the cars shortcoming with torque and help it get off the line and stick the corners better

well i do alot of stuff with my car, but i cant afford tires. I'd much rather spend $90 a tire for kumhos that are 95% as good as $200 michelins

For me, I have run the Michelin PS2's and the new Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions that I have on now are the best tires ever! With the PS2's I was chirping 3rd every time now with the Bridgestones I just catch in second sometimes without even chirping. And in the wet these things are amazing, so much traction, I have to drop it to spin in the rain.

Thats not bad at all!!!!
BF Goodrich G-Force Sport's were $105 per tire when I got them for 205/50/16, and that was the cheapest performance tire for that size.
and the Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires I mentioned before will easily run over $200 per tire. Luckily I got mine for free, although used.
You guys really have no clue what it feels like to ride on the Proxes RA-1's unless you've driven on slicks... all the other top tire brands and types are NOTHING compared to these tires, theyre the ULTIMATE!!!

wow $105 is expensive. I got my gforce sports for like $65 a tire. I had some sidewall issues with mine so I'm looking for something different to try and I've heard great things about the Ecstas. I heard that for under $150 a tire they're the best things out there.
