3 hours isn't bad at all.. consider being in a lot of other parts of the country where the traditional track drive is 5-6 hours. we are in a great area being in central florida. sebring and daytona are both within 2-3 hours from tampa (daytona even closer from orlando), pbir is 3-4 hours away, homestead is another hour and a half past that, starke is only 3, etc. at least we have a lot of options

Great guys! There's a group buy on G-Force equipment as well offering 30% off. Be sure to take advantage of it. You should have received an email from FSC.

What was the website?
I can't find the email with the info.
Thanks.

It came in an email to FSC members:
We have arranged a group purchase of G-Force products with a group purchase price of 30% off list with a 5 unit minimum. Actually, anything is available at the discount; suits, gloves, shoes, etc. The helmets (or other items) will be delivered to the GoRally Track and will be waiting for the participants upon arrival on Oct. 29.
All orders must be pre-paid to FSC. Participants should go to G-Force (http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=tcrlipdab&et=1107547702643&s=986&e=001-q0RUi7vXpKrHB1uR5hYzqNzrwtJus6OJKSNXD3dNpHsuTX3-QBmhT7yfLjIIBrTNxEXBIkhczm8WzYtLuRbV5_YDh8SFEw7Fkh RSeFm2fI=) (800-397-7813) and click on the "Racing Gear Division," where they can find SA rated helmets and other items. Take the posted price (minus 30%), add Fla sales tax and $6.50 for the shipping charge to Starke FL and send that amount to FSC via check. We, in turn, will forward the order with full payment.

Why this event was canceled?

The even did not have enough interest. Being the first event in a while for the chapter, we were not in a position to risk having an under attended event. The day to submit a deposit came and there weren't anywhere near the needed numbers.
My only regret was that we didn't set the registration deadline inline with the track deposit. We had plenty of interest before the registration went active.
To get these events going again, we'll need some feedback about what events the chapter wants to see. When there is an event open, like the Street Survival in November, we need as much marketing help as we can get to get this chapter active.

Sad, really. I was about to sign up within a day or so, when my brother sent me the email saying it was cancelled. Was looking forward to this one all year long.

Guys! This is very reassuring. My best suggestion is to be vocal about it...maybe hit up the facebook site.
Sadly, the chapter board has the general opinion that there are not many members who are interested in motorsports...at least not enough to support big events. I often fear, we're just not doing a good enough job reaching young enthusiast. There's quite an age gap between the young enthusiast and the typical member.
You guys have any ideas? I don't really go to meets/car shows to gather a bunch of car friends. The time I get away from my family usually heads me straight to the track.
The chapter has all the tools needed, we just need the people!

I definitely want these events. I loved Sebring, but it is quite costly, which is why I did not do the September DE this time, but instead just did the Saturday Auto-X. I knew I was going to Starke, so when I heard that was cancelled, I was quite bummed.
Auto-X is great too, and I love our CCA Chapter events.
I'd love to get involved with some of the bmwcca motorsport events. Starke is a bit further than I'm willing to go, though. I've heard the Ocala kart track opens up for car clubs sometimes.

I'm thinking about trying to organize a karting event/league at either Andersen or Tampa Bay GP. What do you guys think about that?

The closer to the Tampa/Sarasota area the better in my opinion. I'm in Venice, and while Starke is far, I have a place to stay nearby. An hour or so drive is ideal. Even Brooksville can be a quite tiring ride home after a full auto-x day.

I'd be down to join a kart event at Andersen. I'm pretty sure the Ocala track I referenced lets car clubs put their street cars on the track.

Agreed!

Let me do some checking into the karting and Andersen. How many other guys do you know who would be interested in something like that?
As for cars on a kart track, I'd prefer not to do something like that. There are just too many things wrong with that for a BMW sanctioned event.
I assume that they set it up like an autocross, one car at a time, but I am not sure.
I could probably talk my buddy into a kart event, but I can't commit a large group.
