Working in Sarasota come late August. I'll be working near close to exit 213; any suggestions on nice areas for young professionals to live? Also, what is the city like? I haven't spent much time there and would like some input on parks, beaches and the night life for younger people (21+). Thanks guys.

Hey there, I'm in Sarasota. I live down on the south end of town near Gulf Gate. I like the area. The University area (where you work) has some nicer apartments. My favorite areas to hang out are out on Siesta (at the beach or in the "village") Downtown is nice as well.

Lol, I liked Sarasota. Every place is pretty much the same no matter where you live, it is all what you make of it. There is plenty to do there and it is a beautiful place to live.

Maybe I just missed you? It all depends on what you are wanting to do, I've grown up a lot since then as well. What I should have said was, it's a great place to live but better if Jim Aurther were there.:D

I'm in Sarasota, and actually live near University and Lockwoodridge. Sarasota is a mixed bag... I'm 38 with a family (young kids) and I find it a bit dull sometimes, but there is stuff going on. You won't find better beaches anywhere... seriously. While it's definitely a town full of older folks and retirees, there's plenty of young folks here that go out, and there's plenty for them to do. If you're into the car scene, there are a few meets a month, a local euro car group, auto-x events close by, drags @ Bradenton Motorsports Park, drifting @ Desoto Super Speedway, and there are tons of big meets/shows within an hour or so if you're into that sorta thing. Also, FixxFest is held at Bradenton Motorsports Park in November: https://www.facebook.com/fixxfest.

I've started a Facebook page to try to keep up with local car and driving related events: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sarasota-Area-Car-and-Driving-Events/189716137749879

Hope this helps.

BTW, I forgot to mention... as long as you live west of I75, you're never more than 20-25 minutes from any of the awesome beaches. There are plenty of parks in the area, depending on whatcha like. Just check the Sarasota and Manatee county parks websites:

Sarasota: http://www.scgov.net/parksandrecreation/

Manatee: http://www.mymanatee.org/home/government/departments/parks-and-recreation.html

For "night life", downtown Sarasota is active, and check out St. Armands circle and Siesta Key for bars and "clubs". There's also some decent cultural type stuff... a good symphony orchestra, theater group, ballet, Ringling art museum, etc.

Hope this helps...
