Hi!

I received a ticket on Friday when I was driving from Tampa to Miami in the morning. And I started thinking about buying a radar detector.

But I don't know anything about such devices (I can only read reviews) and don't know if these devices are really effective against radars or not. The prices vary from 100 to 600.

I now that not all radar detectors detect all types of bands. But I don't know what bands are commonly used here in Florida.

Guys, could you tell me if you use such devices and maybe you could recommend me a good one.

Thanks.

passport 9500 and valentine one seem to be the best and most desired on the market... there is one other brand I think that's up there too, but can't remember what it is. pretty much everything else is crap.

Personally, I would save the money and just plan an extra 15 minutes in the trip and go the speed limit.

Ha-ha))) That's nice feature! What model you got?)

Nate, I wanted to save 10-15 minutes, but finally didn't save anything... And also got a ticket.

Yes, I saw reviews of 9500, but it's a bit expensive. You know I saw a car that was stopped on a median (where ppl can't make turns) and I suppose that a man inside that car was using a radar. I didn't even noticed cops, because I suddenly saw a white dodge crossing the median (where there is a grass) with it's light flashing.

V1 hands down. Escort doesn't do "multiple bogey", it's cheaper, and it's just the cats meow

Not speeding helps a lot but sometimes it's nice to know when they're fuckin with you. Since I've had the radar its saved me from 3 tickets where I was not only doing the limit but they didn't even clock me (one even said rolling laser )

having one just kind of lets you speed more and more to the point where even if it goes off it cant really help you in the city. although for highway the v1 or passport would be my choice as they have to sit in alligator alley with them on and when were talking about cutting hours out of a drive to miami.... they are well worth it :shifty:

passport and V1 likes everyone else said. BUT be cautious of helicopters, theres nothing to defend against a stopwatch, helo, and a car down the road to catch you. Theres also tips to reduce reflection off of your car, when a cop lases you. Theres a huge write up on it on E46fanatics.

IMHO, interstates are made for high speed driving and when I drive it's hard to drive at speed limit. I'm not sayin that everyone should drive 120 instead of 70, but +5-10MPH it's still could be OK. I even wonder how ppl can drive 65 on interstates.

BTW, who can tell anything about lawyers "The ticket clinic" in Tampa?

As for me, I like acceleration more than high speed. That means I don't drive above the limit often, but I like to accelerate!)) But on West Shore Blvd it's hard to do it, because the limit is 30-35...

Against helis I could probably use missiles, but can't figure out how to install a missile launcher on my car)))

incorrect. race tracks are made for high speed driving. that's where the confusion happened I guess

What?

Haha, I think I'm the resident engineer. I'll build the missile launcher system for your car :p

Yeah, I was joking about speeding on highways, but I still wonder WHY in the US there are no highways like autobahns in Germany, where you can drive as fast as you can. For example, they could build a private roads where people pay about 10-15$ and drive at much higher speeds.

So, I need 2 missile launchers, stealth paint, a 1 rocket engine and of course a device which allows me to travel through time in my car!)))

I decided not to buy a detector at this time, but to drive at Speed limit + 5-7 MPH in the cruise control mode. Do they ever stop people for +5-7 MPH?

If they're dicks they'll pull ya for 5 over but usually don't ticket. Some put 1-5 over, judge laughs in their face, done...others put dumb shit like careless driving.

6+ they'll pull ya and ticket you. I got out of a 6 over after the cop saw my record

+1

Common sense is expensive for some.

According to the ticket I was driving +22, they measured my speed using Stalker (Ka-band) and also added that it was "Sunny, hazy, dry, and no traffic". Yes, it was sunny, but there was some traffic. I'm going to talk to a lawyer today or tomorrow.
