So I read somewhere that cold air intake increases yur gas mileage. I know that its supposed to increase hp, but is it true that it increases yur gas mileage too?
If this is true, does anyone know where i can buy one/get one installed in Tampa? I have a 98 Merc E320. Any idea how much a decent one would run me?

almost everything increases gas mileage.... chip, intake, exhaust, the lot. They barely increase gas mileage, but it varies by car. Some may benefit more than others. If you get a gas mileage increase it may only be like 1 mpg and if thats the reason to get it, its not worth it. If you pay $150 for a CAI and you go from 19 to 20 mpg, you get 15 miles more per tank. It's not a big enough difference if you just want gas mileage. Gives some performance and increases the sound, which is why I'd recommend it.
If you do get one, get a higher up one or one with a shield. With all the rain in florida and the flooding, you dont want water getting into it

The performance gain on the M3 is what makes it worth it for me ;)

Higher one with a shield, got it.
Where do you recomend I get one from?
My car being a Merc, is adding this kinda thing gonna mess it up at all. Like is it gonna keep saying "check engine" and all that crap?

no, that normally happens on aftermarket exhausts with hi-flo cats or no cats.... unless im wrong here, in which case someone better reply soon lol

Cool.
And where should I buy?

A CAI should not throw any CELs, regardless of whether it's a Merc or a Kia.

Just get a K&N kit for your car. I would not do a CAI on your car and doubt a nice one exists.

"high performance" intakes only give you worse gas mileage because they allow more air to get in the mix, when more air gets in, it sucks more gas in. The performance increase is usually good but like LD said, if you get any worse gas mileage it would probably be only 1 mpg.
check ebay for one but make sure it's legit, and not something universal. If your stock intake box has any sensors or other hoses connecting to it, make sure theres a place for all that stuff on the new one.
hope all goes well!

:ditto: they dont even make one for my car... SR intake works fine for me.

Hydrolock?

It usually helps gas mileagle but all you're going to see is one to 2 mpg better and at worse 1 mpg worse.... it does help your throttle response as its easier for the car to suck in the air...
Mr. Bojangles has a CAI, the hood scoops take air in and port it over the box, the foam around the box seals with the hood so it takes in the cooler air from outside... I love it because it takes all the sound deadening downpipes and makes the engine much louder... also when I step on the gas I can here a nice Huffing Puffing noise from the engine of it sucking the air in... it sounds nice... I hear a bit of air sucking noise while cruising, but its a nice sound imo....
Just don't take your car into big puddles lol.... or get right on it after its been sitting still in the rain... sometimes the intakes on my truck take in a little water in the rain... the K&N filters seem to do a good job with keeping the water out of it... they make more restricive covers that help with it but the filter does just fine... Sometimes it seems a little bogged on initial start up if its just been sitting in the rain, but nothing big

Just like everyone else said, you won't get much hp or better mpg. You will get more sound and throttle responce though. I'm pretty sure they only make drop-in filters for your car, but you can always make a K&N kit. I wouldn't worry about hydrolocking unless the filter is very close to the ground.
How did you break you S2K Dave?

Should have had the bypass valve. Had a flash flood going to college, one way street, nowhere to pull off. Tried to hall ass through behind a trucks wake in front of me then a car going the opposite direction did the same and threw it all up past my door and POW! Someone helped me push it out of there and all I see is oil....and coolant :banghead:
