So, were you going to ask how to remove the caliper?

My question was what type of bolt the calipers were held on by. Those dust caps cover 7mm allen bolts. The caliper bracket uses regular bolts.

Ive never seen anything like that before, except on a german car. lol

Ive done plenty of brake pad / rotor replacements, but never on a BMW

I knew that was going to be your question. Did it work for you?

i think the dust caps are pretty rad. Useless because they only guard where you put the allen, but still rad.

Im changing the pads tongiht, Ive had a hard time finding a wear sensor, so that might have to changed at a later date. These pads need to come out yesterday to save the rotors.

My initial reaction to the dust cap and allen bolt was something like, "omg crazy german special tools / difficultly level rising" Now I see its no more difficult, just different.

The dust cap is a great idea, Im just not used to such attention to detail on all these japanese and domestic cars Ive wrenched on in the past.

BTW, whatever sensor thing on the LCA that moves up/down is sweet!

Edit/Add
brakes went smoothly, took a little while to get off the 1st anti-rattle clip. Wear sensor from Reeves for like $13. Car drives beautifully
