So I was talking to Justin about it last night, and found out that at least he loves teh paintball.

I personally have never been. None of my friends want to play with me, and I am not a fan of pick up games w/ random dousches in any sport/activity.

Anyone else out there that would be interested in doing this sometime? I'd seriously like to start playing regular games so I can have an excuse to pick up a Tippmann A-5 http://www.baybimmers.com/new/images/smilies/wink.gif

Before this turns into a paintball vs. airsoft thread...I'd be interested in going. It has to be on a real course though; no people turning their velocity to 500fps!

If this turns into a paintball vs airsoft thread, you all can kiss my ass. Keep that **** out of the thread please. Start a thread for airsoft if you wanna talk about that.

But yes - Real field. Justin turned me on to Orbital over in Thonotossassa or wtfever that town is called.

I'd be up for some paintball sometime. My gun's just been laying around since I blew the tank and moved down here.

I'll assume that means *NOT* the gay **** w/ barricades and people running straight at each other. IE - **** in the forest.

Yes, if anyone mentions, as Justin called it "speedball" - I will kick them in the crotch and call them a loser.

Sorry, I don't know the terminology for paintball here - I'm a military dickhead, never learned the nomenclature in the paintball world ;)

What's wrong with speedball? (Sup'air, Hyperball, etc)

Nothing if you're not into realistic combat. Granted, the only thing I've ever seen that I would call "Speedball" was on ESPN and it was just a bunch of fat losers standing behind brick walls peeking out and shooting at each other every few seconds. No running, no tactics, no nothing - Just spray n pray.

Bah, that's not a good representation of speedball then. Sure, you'll have one or two back players, supplying suppressive fire (you could call it spray and pray, but it's just giving cover, no different than what you'd use an m249 SAW for in 'combat'). Then you'll have front and mid players, diving behind the snakes and doritos on the break, crawling along, and popping up for quick snap-shots. It can get pretty intense. LOTS of tactics involved, and the front players have to be -fast-, or they'll get taken out off the break.

yeah, um..... suurrre ryan... lol too much talky for me

id be up for some paintball. Ive only played once and I have no gun, but any excuse to shoot someone in the head and go "BOOM HEADSHOT! or shoot someone in the face and go "OOOOOH FACIAL!" is good.......... I'm down

I'm going to have to side with Jake on this one. "Speedball" is for fairy boys.

The way I see it. A bunch of people run behind obstacles, and then they just hold down the damn trigger on their automatic 1282BPS paintball gun and hope they don't get shot.

A few years ago we got to play paintball, on a mountain. It was 30 on 30, and we got an entire mountain to play on. Now THAT was fun. No barriers, no inflatable walls, its just left up to you to deal with what you have and come up with your own tactics. You have to deal with snipers as well as flankers. It just seems a hundred and twenty twelve time better to me.

I'm with you. I hate speedball/hyperball. I just thinks it's stupid wasting 1000 rounds of paint while shooting at some guy ten feet away from you. Anyway, Gator Paintball has some good woods fields, but it's up in Hudson.

Ive always wanted to try it out, but I dono, getting hit that first time has always scared me away from it.

But if everyone wanted to try it out, Id be willing to try it out once to see if I liked it. I would be willing to go up to Orbital one weekend.

Has anyone played their before? Cus I dono how much it is to rent stuff and all that. Like how much is an average day at the field gonna cost me?

If you have nothing at alll...it'll cost around $15-25 for admission/air, $30-40 to rent a gun, and another $20-40 for paint.

And don't worry about getting hit. I've been shot a million times and it's not that bad.

Wow this thread is hillarious... i've been playing paintball for 8+ years...

Airball is anything but for sissy boys... and Woodsball is nowhere near a real combat simulation...

but I digress...

When it cools off i might get out there and play again... but I've pretty much liquidated all my gear (a few grand worth) to pay for car stuff... I've got 1 functional gun left... and my safety gear.

oh well, I'll just school y'all with my stock class pump-gun.. :)

lol you act like thats a big drive to hudson
dont be afraid of getting shot. i think the first time you play your so hyped up you dont feel it for a long time, and usually if its kinda far off it doesnt hurt at all anyways. i just dont wanna do it because it can be quite an investment. its a fun thing to do but ive seen people blow a lot of money of paintball stuff and 6 months later they dont even play at all

Regardless, its a HELLUVA lot more realistic than gay-blow up paintball

Please, enlighten me as to what is MORE realistic that civilians can join in on. I am well aware that no civilian capable game is going to be anywhere near perfect for realism, but you can get as close as possible.

Damn, thats like 105 for the whole day. A friend of mine has a gun I can probly borrow thats half decent, but damn, thats a lot of money.

Maybe Ill just stick to the laser tag if this place in Brandon is any good. lol.

But yea, Ill try to make it out some time.

I don't play paintball to get my milsim fix... I play to shoot people in the face!!!

and have a good time with my crew... when I lived in MI I had a group of about 20 people who'd always hit the field together... it was a blast!

Its never fun going in 2s or 3s...

I've traveled to events all over the midwest and northeast the last few years, have been sponsored for a few, too.

There were a LOT more places to play when I lived in MI too... really spoils you to have a half dozen good fields within 45 minutes...

Man, speedball is not all about dumping thousands of rounds of paint. Well, unless you're a back player. A frontman spends the entire game, crawling around on their stomach, for that one perfect shot. Like a close range sniper. Anyways, in today's urban combat situations, I'd say hyperball/speedball is a hell of a lot more realistic than two group scattered throughout a forest.

SlickShift
09-14-2006, 07:08 AM
Like a close range sniper.

I think that's a contradiction. Anyway, I doubt anything is like "real" combat. People probably act a little different when a piece of metal is traveling at them at 5000fps versus a ball of paint at 250fts.

It's an oxymoron, not a contradiction necessarily. I was implying simply the aspect of waiting for that single golden shot, instead of spray 'n pray, not the distance aspect of sniping (which is nonexistant in paintball).

They do have urban setups (old houses put together, close quarters combat) at most of the big paintbal/airsoft fields now...
