SOMETIME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON WHEN MY FUEL IS ABOUT 1/4 WAY DOWN, WHEN I CHECK THE LIGHT IT TELLS ME(I HAVE THE MACHINE TO CHECK AND RESET IF ANYONE NEEDS IT) THAT IT WAS A LOW FUEL LEVEL CODE, I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT I HAVE FUEL IN IT, ITS DONE IT WHEN I HAD A FULL TANK, :dunno: DO YOU THINK ITS A SENSOR? CUZ I DONT GET ANY OTHER READINGS, AND WHICH SENSOR. THANKS

Yea i pretty much thought it would be a fuel sensor, but im not sure if u can change that or do i have to bring it to the dealer, i like to do stuff on my own but if its a pain in the ass then i let them do it

check your manual for light resets once you change your oil, the light wont go away on its own, you have to do it yourself by pushing a certain combination of buttons on your dash.

If I am wrong, take it to ANY shop, and they will hook up their code-scanning unit and clear the lights.

ACS530I - Taking the gas tank out yourself isnt too bad probably, but going inside it and changing the floater might be something the pros should do. Not totally sure on that one, but you could probably research the work it requires and see if youre up for it.

thank you and collin i know for the 2001-and up to reset my oil light i have to hold the reset button down turn the key to aux then repress the the rest buttuon again keeping it down til it says reset then u push it again and walla my oil light is reset, but i do have the computer that hooks up to the inside diagnostic but im not sure what year your car is and if it will work i know it works on a 99 528i cuz ive used it before, but on my 89 e34 535i they had to use that big reset tool to reset my oil light, and if they didnt do it my service lights would be in the red and i just had to go back, hope it helps

i have a 96..o yea my airbag light comes on too but goes away after like a mineute(spelling) of driving

hmm...might be different for 96 cause i think its obd2 but on mine you just have to take off this cap thing and theres all these pin holes and you stick a paperclip in #7 and #19 pins and leave it there for a certain time, i think its 10 seconds for the oil service light. or you can buy the actual thing that plugs into it and does the same thing for way more... if you want more info on this i can get it for you, just to be sure

yea ive heard of that as well with the paper clips no way should u spend like 300 bucs on a reset tool, and ur airbag light goes off all the time, mine on my e34 use to be slow but not like a few minutes.

im not sure what pin is what they might be numbered if not try to find a chart or something maybee one of these guys can post a pic with the pins but heres some instructions on what to do

turn your car key to Position II but do not start the car.
2) Turn the cap counter clock wise on the Data Link Connector and insert the Reset Tool
3) Follow the instructions of your reset tool, different models may have different fuctions however they all create a short in PIN 7 to PIN 19 for a given amount of time.

OIL Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 3+ seconds
INSPECTION Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 10+ seconds

4) Once done, remove the reset tool and close the cap .
5) Your dash should light up with green lights at this point.
If the light did NOT reset after the above steps then you might be reseting Oil Service however an Inspection Service is needed.

ok theres the link, ive done this before and it is totally safe, ive never heard of somebody having trouble with it. since i didnt know where it was when i first did it, im assuming you odnt either. if you look at the pic, it should give away the location, but its just to the right of your engine attached to the strut housing thing 9 forget what its called. mine were actually numbered for number 7 and 19 i think

I did the paper clip thing to reset the oil light. I took a couple tries, but it worked.
