Long story short, I went to check out a buddies dyno shop today. The shop specializes in building 240's. Well they have a S14 240 with a fully built SR20, GT35R, Tein EDFC's, Volk's ... on and on! Anyways they are selling the car for 18k. The owner, the guy I know took me for a ride, and I am seriously considering buying the car! It made 450whp @ 20psi on 93 octane!!!! Anyways, after riding in the ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUSLY OVERPOWERED car, I thought about what stupid power would be like in my car.

Anyways its brought me to this. Thinking about building my motor and going all out with my car. If I dont go this route, that 240 may be sitting in the garage next to the A4!!

So heres my research so far! What do you think? Build the A4? Keep the A4 as is, buy the 240??? HELP!!!

coming from the 240 world i thought 240's were the ****...once i sold mine i start to see what that group is really like and i dont ever wanna go back to driving a 240 lol
one thing that was cool about them was the super low seating position and the way the drivers area was set up, it was perfect. aftermarket seats though are always higher , seems like nobody makes a seat to fit the stock rails...
anyways, what im trying to say is i used to love them, but now i really dont care for 240's much.you should get a clean decent powered DD with some small mods and build the a4 basically so its almost impossible to have as a daily driver... my 2 cents...

was this shop XAT racing?

I would say only get the 240 if you plan to drift the hell out of it. any pics?

i also like the built A4 idea..

if it was xat racing that was modding this car... i probably wouldnt buy it.ive seen some of the work they do, its kind of shotty...i think they do it too fast and dont take the time to do it right when people are paying thousands of dollars just for the installation of the sr20. id say in parts and everything its probably worth 18, but id have a very hard time actually justifying paying 18 for that

personally, i think the car would be a handful in the twisties with all that power. If you don't ever go to track events and autoXs and dont care about handling, then i say build the audi! Also I agree with Kelso. Don't get the 240, build the hell out of the audi and then get a nice DD

Yes its for sale at XAT. I met one of the guys that runs the place (Martin) a few weeks back at my shop and he said to come over to check it out. Well when I went over there to see the dyno and see the shop he had this 240 that was for sale. I started looking at it and talking to him about the whole 240 swap thing and it led me to this car being for sale and going for a ride. Im not going to buy the car just because its too much power/stuff to worry about when I dont know much about the 240. I am still considering building my motor and going with a custom turbo setup if it seems viable and worth putting the money in!

Check on the AZ thread, theres some interesting info on there!

for 18k you could build a lot of things up to be that fast... if you want all out power just build a turbo mustang.. for that money you would be stupid fast..

audi is a heavy platform and will always be plauging you. honeslty if you want to keep it in the family, sell your b6, by a b5 s4 and go see ASP for a twin gt25r kit.. no replacement for displacement.

18k forget that crap put 8k into your car, wait you could probably buy a juiced up b5 s4 and do a little more work to it and be close to those numbers. or new 4.2L v8 s4 engine swap plus work

A4ringedONE8T

the new 340hp V8 is crap! I would never buy a car with that motor. Totally lame follow up to the Biturbo 2.7 in the B5 S4!!!

Think that is 18k for an extra car ;) add his to the equation.

Kevlar

Ok, ~30 (rough guess) + 18 = 48. New RS4 = 66. The price difference there is two 240's, haha.

sublimefan86
09-11-2006, 02:50 PM
66 for a base rs4, you'd have to get the sporty, more like 72 (74 grand w/ stealership fees)

hell, if you can handle it, do it!

A4ringedONE8T

New RS4 is 73k with options, definitely not in my budget!

I wasnt even looking for a new car for me, however I was looking for one for my GF. My GF was going to drive the A4 and Id drive the 240 had I bought it.

My opinion - If you're looking to drop 18k anyways, sell your car and pick up a B5 S4. Lots of potential, great starting platform for mods.

Don't waste your time w/ a 240 - There's nothing special about the cars. The only reason they are as popular and as easy to build as they are, is because they are one of the VERY few modern Japanese cars that is RWD and affordable to purchase. Don't get me wrong - I love em, but I'd *NEVER* own one short of an S15 V-Spec, and I'd never mod it, just keep it stock and daily drive it.

If you're looking for something different, figure out where you want the A4 to be, build to that point, and then pick up a project car. I'm currently planning on this, I've got a few more small things (and 1 big thing) to do to my Roady, then it's on to the monster garage build for another vehicle.

You got it, I really dont know if I could be happu driving a Non German car :germanflag:

As far as mods, heres my plan for the next year (or when money allows)

1) QTP Electronic Dump
2) Innovate XD16 Wideband
3) Pistons, Rods, Head Build
4) Stoptechs or Porsche Brakes
5) GT3071R
6) Wheels

Enough crap??? Order may change but I want to get the motor built and put some miles on it with my current turbo setup for proper breakin before I jump to twice the HP

Looks good. :)

Spring for the custom CP Pistons, and if you really wanna be baller, call up Verdi in Sweden and see if he'll make you some custom rods. Best rods money can buy, plain and simple, expensive though (in comparison to Arrow).

You might want to look into Pistons and Rods from Mahle Motorsport... they will do custom piston runs.

... I've been dropping hints to my Dad to get involved in that division of his company (Mahle Technologies), he's a mech engineer by education, but actually an international sales director for the company... they sell engine parts (factory and performance) to pretty much everyone in the internal combustion engine industry (generators, bikes, cars, trucks, construction material, cruise ships).
