Who is going with me? Sounds like a lot of fun.

What: Fantasy of Flight <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Where: Lakeland, Florida. located off I-4 at exit 44
When: Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Event Information
Worlds largest private collection of vintage aircraft plays host to “Wings & Wheels” Oktoberfest. “Red Baron” set to take to the skies as displays of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW , Volkswagen and Munich style beer gardens entertain below.

An incredible collection of vintage aircraft including an exact replica of legendary WW I ace, Manfred Von Richthofen's (Red Baron) Fokker DR-1 Tri plane will play host to a Oktoberfest themed event in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday, October 7th. Also set for display will be a collection of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen and other German sports cars. The event will strive for authenticity with entertainment planned to include the “Red Baron” aircraft taking to the skies, Munich style beer gardens, classic Oktoberfest food offerings, music, aerial demonstrations, aircraft displays and interactive exhibits, biplane rides, and more.

Organizers are planning to create an event that both entertains and educates by taking advantage of their significant collection of vintage aircraft and by adding the displays of vintage and contemporary German cars. German car owners are urged to bring their cars for display in car corrals. Awards and prizes will be awarded to cars that win in Octoberfest themed contests including one for a VW Bug that is decorated best in the Octoberfest manor. The event will kick off by paying respect to an Oktoberfest tradition with the “Tapping of the beer barrel” at the"Schottenhamel” garden. The beer garden will house a variety of German beer including Becks, Heineken and Lowenbrau. German foods including bratwurst, sausage, and strudel will be served.

Located on over 1000 acres, the facility houses over a multitude of aircraft, a restaurant, three art deco hangars covering 70,000 feet, a fully operating aircraft restoration shop and 8,000 feet of runway. The aircraft collection was acquired by enthusiast and aviator, Kermit Weeks. Weeks built his first aircraft at 17, won the US National Aerobatics Championships twice and has placed in the top three overall in the world five times.

According to Jennifer Montague of Fantasy of Flight, “The idea of an Octoberfest at our facility came about while talking with a customer who had recently returned from an Octoberfest in Germany. While listening to his stories and walking through the aircraft hangers we paused by our recreation (no original Fokker's exist) of the Fokker DR-1 Tri plane flown by World War One Ace , Manfred Von Richthofen (the Red Baron). We all just looked at each other and realized we could build something very special here”

The idea to add a collection of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other German cars came while discussing details of what would be included in the event beyond the standard beer gardens and German food. One call to the local Porsche Club confirmed their involvement. “Our goal is to attract as many car owners as possible to come and display their cars. A special “Porsche Corral” will be set up for club members“ said Kim Long of Fantasy of Flight. In addition, other Corrals will be on site to display other German cars. Specially reduced event tickets are available at participating car clubs. The event acts as a fundraiser for clubs with a portion of the sale staying with them.

TheDarkSide

I talked to the cordinator. They wanted a list of our group like 2 weeks ago and pay in advance. It was sort of unrealistic.

Hi Mr. O'Donnell....
Thank you kindly for your inquiry and interest. We welcome your car club and hope that many of your members will join us on October 7th. We plan to have registration open from 8 to 10 am; those who arrive by 10 are guaranteed a photo opp with a vintage German airplane. The festivities begin at 10 am and include German stilt jumpers, DJ, entertainment, a beer tent, food vendors and our corporate partners with new cars on display as well. All German-made cars are welcome and will be categorized/grouped and on display by make and model.

If you pre register your car it will run $20
If you register the day of you have to be there by 8am and it is $30

cheaper, we can meet up and all go together and take pics of our cars, etc.

LDadrenaline
10-04-2006, 03:11 PM
wait so we have to pay an entrance fee, then something else ON TOP of that? If it's any more than $25, I don't think I will go.

sublimefan86
10-04-2006, 03:15 PM
we're not sure, apparently the ppl that were contacted don't even know! :\

i think if we wait til the one on the 27-29th, we'll have more time to get more ppl interested and have a better turnout from FG. we can just decide to go out on either that sat. or sun., depending on the majority of ppl and their schedules. my guess is we could get the best turnout on a sunday, since most everybody has that day off.

Panzer_M
10-04-2006, 03:41 PM
26$..mmm...I know most of the Planes at FOF, only german machine there is a Fiesler Storch..which if I remember right is a post-war French built copy(The French didn't have their own designed aircraft built for a few year after the war, and used the better of the german designs to copy(a few countries did), they also used Captured German Tanks, Trucks and other material at the time)

back on topic..what about this idea.

I say we find a park in LakeLand and just have a BBQ or something. Same effect..lot of BMWs in one place and people having a good time.

Here:

Hello Mr. O'Donnell,
I'm happy to assist....
Early registration was $20 per person, that ended on 9/22, however I extended that until 9/29.
If you want to register now, it's $25 per person and will be the same (we changed from $30) the day of event if you want to pay at that time.
Fees include car registration and admission into attraction all day.
Registration is open from 8-10 am - show starts at 10 and ends at 4pm.

Hope this helps, but if I can help further, please let me know.

Blue skies,
Christine

I am down for Disney Quest but then agian I have that annual pass that covers that... I think its 20 bucks or something to get into there... IDK whats in there now... the only thing super fun is the roller coaster thing and my favorite is the pirate ship game where like 5 people get in this boat thing and shoot cannons at the enemy boats and castles and cities to get gold... it ranks how good you do and everything, and theres a boss to beat at the end
