View Full Version : Just incase someone thinks that popup lights are bad for pedestrians...
I was at Countryside mall returning some items and to my surprise, I see this crap. Now I know how bad popup light are really. I am 6 foot tall and the bumper would hit my chest, so the bumper is 4 to 5 feet off the ground. So the other 2 bumpers would crush my hips and the truck's "trailer hitch balls" would shatter my knee caps. So DOT lets this pile of crap run around and I can't have popup lights? Come on.....

Not to mention the fact that those idiots put those eBay HID kits in their trucks. That's REAL fun. At least the Hondas w/ those kits are LOWERED.

wow, what an ass-ugly truck. :puke:
i totally agree about the pop up headlights vs. jacked up truck though.
im not sure if they banned pop-up headlights because of pedestrian injuries though, that just seems WAY too rediculous to even comprehend. :jerkit:
:autobunny: < notice the red car does NOT have pop-up headlights. :D
FLAsian...I do go that way a lot, I work in new port richey, so I go down McMullen every morning.

wow, they definately should have a limit for those trucks.... i know headlights cant be below a certain height, but cmon....headlights that high are worse

there is a milit, but a large majority of cops are "good ol boys" who have trucks just as big. so they dont see the problem with it

I f*ckin' hate those trucks with the "trailer hitch balls." I guess it compensates for the balls the owners are lacking. I also hate how they don't adjust their headlights so they blind you while you're driving. [/vent]

Did no one notice the fact taht on the side of the truck it says "All jacked up?"
ROTF! Worst truck ever. How the hell are popups bad for pedestrians though? Just teaches em a bigger lesson if they get in your way.
He thought he was cool doing it i guess....notice the flames coming off the pumpkin (rear diff)?

What's all this about banning popups? I know they don't make them on production cars today, but is there something I'm missing about older ones?

This is funny. I have never heard about pop up lights and "pedestrian killers" since today. I was reading European Car magazine and saw a blurb on it and was wondering what they meant, and now I see it on here. So anyone care to fill me in on what I have been out of the loop on? I have never heard of this before but am curious the reasoning behind the ban that I just found out about as well now that I am trying to place any car with pop ups that has been recent with no luck.

Pop up lights have been outlawed by legislation. That is why the Vette and NSX made the change.

Hmm, so the question is, what do you do if your car has pop-up lights?
TheDarkSide

you are grandfathered in. sort of like not having seat belts/airbags in older cars.

I hate these damn redneck-style trucks. We have them all around here, and they piss me off. They always ride right on your ass, so even if you had to brake really fast, they'd just run you over and keep driving. They always drive so crappy too, ducking in and out of traffic like they have a Ferrari (or rather BMW, Audi, VW, Porsche, etc).
 But hey, what can we do? They ban pop-ups (that which I have never heard of before) but they don't ban trucks that are completely unsafe and would flip over so easily causing huge accidents. Oh well, that's the legislature for ya!

I guess death by pop up lights would be too painful of a death. Hit and completely crushed by super swampers is a lot more humane.

God, I didn't know they actually banned popups.
But you did say older cars are grandfathered in right? So there's no problems with NA Miatas, AW11/SW20 MR2s, 1st gen NSXs, etc? All well and good?

2003 was the last year they were produced new...Lotus Esprit...
Coincidentally, all 4 of my cars have had popup lights. If I leave the lights on by accident in a car, its because it doesnt have popup lights that take up half of my vision when they are up http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/tamparacing/smiles/laugh.gif
But hey, my headlights are really freakin clean though. I never have to worry about cleaning them or anything. Which is kinda funny in that my Supra has headlight washers (you can see them right below my headlights in my sig)! http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/tamparacing/smiles/laugh.gif
