There's not 1 final production model picture released yet. Every spy shot so far has been of a 330 body with nasty boring wheels and ugly ass camo bumpers with black tape everywhere so how can you judge it?
base price seems too low, and the list of options seem kinda pricey... im thinking more options will be standard or cost less, base price will be higher.. invoice on the e46 m3 was what, 42k? hard to believe this one will only be 7k more...
i just wanna see the final pics of the damn thing

BMW needs to lower the cost of some of those options if they really want to beat the RS4 all around... bc that comes standard with almost everything except the $4,100 Premium Package option :jerkit: which is too damn expensive, and the $350 rear side airba option which will hike the base price of $66,720 up to $71,770... so basically if the new M3 comes in fully loaded at $66,000 they are doing excellent but if they go up to $69,000 or more we are in trouble and going to be criticized a lot which idk about you but im tired of the M3 getting criticized for its price and lower level of performance... i want to shove it down everybodys throats including my dads...
Too bad even if it is listed at that price. It won't sell at that price till it's been out for a full year at least. I remember when the first e46 M3's were going for 20,000 over sticker..

I am not a big fan of the new body styles but I have to admit they drive awesome. We got a 2006 325i with premium and sports package for my wife and I have to say this 3 series drives nicer then any E36 or E46.
I be affraid to test drive a new M3 I probably buy one after the road test.

Any E46? I'd imagine you forgot to add the E46 M3 exclusion -- I drove an E90 325i for a whole day (not sport package though) and it definitely was not something I'd recommend to someone who wanted a car that was fun to drive. Safe and slow with some nice new features sure, which seems totally appropriate to buy the wife or kids ;)
I have never driven any regular E46 btw ;)

The sport really makes a huge difference in the E90s.

yes it does... the E46 wasnt as much of a difference, but the E90 basically if you dont have the Sport Package in the 330i you are basically driving a 325 with just a tad more power, but with teh Sport you get a car that reacts, feels and drives better and faster...

I really do have little love for it at all. Yes I'm incredibly torque biased, but wtf...HP isnt everything and its missing 101 ft lbs. The gap was tollerable on the M3 and the new M coupes...but that--like the E60 M5--is rediculous. I dont like the new M v-engines...the E39 is the only exception. What happened? Save for the awesome E30 M3, they've all been inline 6's in the past...why change now, ESPECIALLY with the release of the 335i's TT direct injection engine?? I guarentee you if they tuned it to its potential it would have more HP and far more tq than the 4.0 V8.
I'm sure I'll like the car overall as a whole, but I'm also sure that for the next decade or so, my favorite M3 will still be the E46.
Thank god the M coupe still uses the 3.2. I'm so glad they didnt drop it.

well BMW is about to prove with the new M3's V-8 that they can make one with a similar weight and weight balance to the I-6...

But nothing short of a rotary or V12 can beat the balance of an Inline 6.
Plus DOHC V8s, although I prefer them to OHV V8s, are stupid. 4 cams which are like 2 cams cut in half for each bank..plus 2 banks means 2 heads and thus more metal required, and they are harder to work on.
I stand by the Inline 6 as the best engine all around ever produced
LDadrenaline

cant beat the balance of an inline six?? Maybe theres something Im missing, but i was under the impression that the boxer engines were the best for weight distribution. They sit flat and keep the center of gravity low

http://experts.about.com/e/s/st/Straight-6.htm
"Straight-6 engines have perfect primary and secondary balance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_balance) and require no balance shaft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balance_shaft)."
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/at_010424.htm
"It has both primary and secondary balance. Primary balance is when the crankshaft counterweights offset the weight of the piston and rod. Secondary balance is when the movement of one piston balances the movement of another. V6's have a secondary imbalance that causes engine vibration. Adding a counter balance shaft can reduce this imbalance, but that adds weight and complexity."
Here's the website I was looking for though: http://www.autozine.org/technical_school/engine/smooth3.htm
"the vertical and transverse forces generated by individual cylinders, no matter first order or second order, are completely balanced by one another. The resultant vibration is nearly zero, thus inline-6 is virtually a perfect configuration...Ultimately, inline-6 engine is more efficient yet smoother. V6 has more energy loss because it duplicates valve gears and camshafts (which increase frictional loss), while the use of 2 cylinder banks leads to more heat loss. In terms of production cost, although V6 has 3 fewer main bearings, it has more valve gears - which is getting more and more costly these days, with the introduction of twin-cam, hydraulic tappets / finger follower and variable valve timing. Inline-6 is going to be cheaper than equivalent V6."

and i guess all p-cars are ghey since they use boxer engines

Maybe it wasnt the site I thought it was then...there was one of those sites that said boxers are similar because completely 180* piston strokes balance themselves out..natrually balanced but not quite the same.
Plus a pain in the dick to work on, as well as being heavier than an inline with two separate heads and especially a DOHC, requiring 4 cams. No thanks, Inline 6 IMO is a perfect median between power (big V8) and economy/efficientcy/gas mileage (small 4 banger) with never more than 2 cams (which is just enough by itself). Thus one of the many reasons I chose my MkIII Supra for my first and most important car...and eventually leading me to BMW, the only company left that mass produces Inline 6s (Volvos make them...but FWD usually and theres only so many Volvos with them....there are a few GM trucks with them, but I dont give a damn about trucks and it wouldnt be worth sitting through all the crap GM has to get the occasional I6.
Elsewhere however is a different story. In Japan, the 1JZ, 2JZ, and 1G engines are all still made and put into production cars. In Australia, Ford still makes plenty of their DOHC 4.0T I6 for their Falcons etc. Even then, combining the two is the only way to even get close to how many I6s BMW makes.
