Thats not cheap, yeah its a euro but its in shit condition, and it looks like someone tried to VIN wash that car.

whats funny is that about 3 years ago before Obama. this car was worth the money youw ould pay. but now 201's have just become dirt ass cheap. so like fox said. 12-1500 i'd pay. If it ran

edit: im surprised Fox or Das didnt mention the still existent SLS

Here are the problems with this car.

The VIN has been touched
the pictures dont show anything to prove its a grey market car
the battery is missing / the car doesnt run
He has a spare tire on the front passenger side of the car that was NOT made for a 201
The car is primer ffs
ugly fucking depo corners
is that a mesh grille? gtfo
where the fuck is the air filter and lid for the box?
The car hasnt been driven but the rear still sits high? Suspicious but maybe true.
And wtf is with the Ford f20 suspension on the front? i can fit my head between the wheel and arch

Oh and last but NOT least. I cant really tell if it has the grey market model specific wiper, but even if it does. It is not sitting on the right side.

Waste of a car, shame too the engine looks decent.

well, whereas its in tampa thats not to far to go to look for it if someone were interested. but i say what the hell, if he needs money all that bad and youve gone to look at it make him an offer on the engine. obviously by the car being in this kind of shape and he is still asking this outrageous price (but then again i know nothing NOTHING of the w201) he probably wont part with just the engine. i say go down there, knock everything that may decrease value on this car down to the bushings, if he is really in need of money in a quick hurry you the buyer may be able to get you one hell of a deal whether it be parts for your storage or if you want to part the car out

I saw this one a while ago and emailed him for more pictures...it really is a sad car...the interior looks as bad as the exterior. The guy didn't seem knowledgeable about the car at all...I guess this it what the outcome is of these cars falling into the wrong hands... :(

^^Will do, I'll text ya. If it is a Euro it'd be a fun project. He hasn't gotten back to me yet though.

I've been saving a bit for either a 16valve or an SDL.

Its very easy to jew people when your car looks 1000x better than theirs....especially if he tries to pull the "oh its a rare euro" string then you hit him in the face with a nice big fuck you "so is this one, what other crap you want to try and pull"

i just ranted but decided not to so ill go straight to cliffs

$500 if you plan on putting it back on the road
also plan on shelling out around another $4k to make it perfect

$1000 if you're gonna part it out

$1500 if it has perfect interior/you're gonna part it out

I'm half considering buying it to part it out if he'll do it for $1000...who wants to go on a roadtrip with me, a car trailer, my 16v, and some cash this weekend :D

I've got a trailer if ya need it. It even has Mercedes-Benz center caps on it.

Well he asked what time I wanted to come look at it but hasn't responded yet. I'd go for the $500 route but I doubt he'll accept it.

And honestly I would rather keep saving and find a nice Euro that's sorted then deal with having to put a ton of work in to something like this one.

I think the only way someone would pay over $800 for that car is if they were enthusiasts. Or jack...he'd proly pay the 3500 just to finally have a euro lol

haha. it would be as good a shape as the Euro SEC....

I would maybe trade him those split 5's for it. lol....but they may be worth more

I'm not an expert just notest a few things that are euro specific:

-door knobs

-heated seats

-steering wheel

But of corse only the VIN will tell the truth.

Kynyption

i've had heated seats on a NAm....

High quality body work there...

I just don't understand how you could think that car was worth $3500. I mean it needs a LOT of work. Clearly the owner must be slightly psychopathic, therefore I'm not sure I'd like to lowball him.

RPM Photography

Sent him an email requesting a pic of the vin plate on the radiator support. Here's his response:

"I have a lot of pics but not that one. *I will try to take it tomorrow and e-mail it to you. *Ill send you the import plate by the driver door but you can barely read it in the picture. *Thanks for your interest."

I donno bout you Das but my euro doesn't have an import plate in the drivers doorjam. Im not sure it's been a while but I think my 2.6 had one

Most Euro cars I see around have an Import plate in the door jamb.

Imported By:

(Then there is a silver box where the name/company who imported it is engraved.)

RPM Photography

Have you seen em with VINs?

I dont remember seeing one on any euro 16v I've seen. Mine doesnt have anything on the car indicating who imported it...that's what the 200lbs of paperwork is for

Yep, some of them have a place for the VIN under the "Imported by"

I see them on W126's every now and then. They are the "least rare" of the imported vehicles, that's why I see them more often (since after 1985 and even in 1985 importing was getting difficult/nearing impossible).

I know my friend Tyler, who I bought Norm from, has a Euro 500SL that has the plate on it.

He sent me a ton of pictures of the car, including one of the plate.

I dunno, still thinking about it....

Guy wants 2350 for it. Someone help me sweet talk him down to 1500 to 1000 and I'll buy it lol.

According to both the vin plate and fox, it's a euro.

Ether

i understand how he thinks its worth 3500. very simple, he knows what its is but isnt an enthusiast. he browsed ebay and craigslist and such looking for a roundabout general price for one in his condition. then simply added 1500 to the final price thinking someone would pay more because it is a euro. give the guy a break. hes probably just tryin to get his money back from it. (even thought he wont)

colincoon
09-15-2009, 04:41 PM
Yeah I totally understand that too, but like Fox said there is a point where what it is doesn't outweigh what it IS. When it comes down to it, this is a non running car that needs a lot of work. Sure it's a Euro 16valve, but it's a non running car. The interior needs work, the airbox is missing, and the factory wheels are even missing.

Honestly I would much rather spend the money it would cost to repair it on top of the $2350 on a car that actually runs then this, but for a thousand I think it would be worth my time.

Oh well, I'll send him a nice email.
