Well, i recently had the top of my engine rebuilt, but shortly after I blew my cam housing gasket. I replaced it with no problems and now the car runs just as good as before but the valves are kind of ticking at times. Taking off the cam housing is a b!tch, so i wont do it again, but i was wondering if anyone has had ticking valves and tried using something like Lucas oil stabilizer? It's like 15 bucks for synthetic so i dont know if i want to spend the money on it, but i was wondering if anyone had any success/failures with stuff like this? Thanks

once u get headwork redone after like 1k miles the valves need to be adjusted. my dad actually just did his tonight and he said its pretty easy if you know what youre doing

he had to have a mechanic he knows come and help him to make sure it was done right... but im sure he knows how to do it now. Idk if its any different on a 944 than it is on his 911s lol

well considering the engine is entirely different, im sure it is. Im not sure how i could adjust the valves on my car without taking half the engine apart again, but ill do some research later on and look into it. Im hoping i just need a little oil stabilizer or something.

Maybe the stabilizer isn't letting the oil get all the way to the top of the engine?

i havent tried it yet, i was just hoping someone has, so they could tell me if it did anything.

it could be the stabilizer oil, but since your headwork was done have your valves been readjusted?? Its not something weird, it has to be done about 1k miles after any headwork...
Re-adjust and switch to a heavier oil (more dense).

heavier oil, theres an answer ive kinda been looking for, thanks! I know i put in 5w-30 synthetic, so maybe ill try 15w-50 or something.
and people, i have not used the oil stabilizer yet!! i was just wondering if anyone has used it yet..

If it is a 944 you should have hydraulic lifters, if they are noisy have them checked. Maybe by the guy who did your head job.
You need to make sure you have enough oil/ oil pressure in your cam tower/ housing.

i use 15 50 mobil 1 synthetic in my car and it works great
I have that problem with my lifters, a lighter oil will make them tick. Not a problem, but just ho they work.

Nah, the head was built fine by a great shop, I put it on and it ran flawlessly. Once the cam housing gasket blew out, i simply replaced it, changed the oil to 5w-15 i think, and now it ticks a bit, but only at idle.
Oil pressure is awesome at anything but idle, which is rather low at idle. So i think these guys are right about using a thicker oil, because it will get up in the cam better at idle rpm. :thumbu:
