with a small amount of research, you could probably find german car shops all over your area. I worked at one for about a year and know of at least 4 others within a half hour from me. Some of them even specialize in 944's.
Otherwise, i do most of the work on my car myself as well. And ill be glad to help out anyone that needs it, if i dont have to travel toooo far!

it really depends on the type of BMW that you have bc some BMW's are more problematic than others... there is a book that i bought at Barnes and Noble and its the BMW Manufacterers guide or something like that... it gives you all of the BMW models from like the early 80's all the way till like 2000 or so... the E36 and E46 3 Series isnt really much of a problem that i know of at least... no major recalls nor any work that is too costly... idk as much as most of the guys on here about the maintenance bc all of the BMW's ive had have been maintenance free...

bmw does not mean bring money with... parts for my car have been relatively similar in price to what parts on my 240 were... bmw mechs driving benzes? wtf? you think benzes are cheap to work on? i have a friend who works as a tech for mercedes...they charge out the ass and dont pay dick honestly, but yea some of the parts prices he told me were incredible. like over 40 thousand for an unpainted mclaren SLR hood:eek:

I just got biz card on my car the other day for a German mechanic that is around palm harbor. I was going to post it and ask if anyone has heard of the guy.

I am my own mechanic
WTF? Just go to the dealership and look around the parking lot. The mechs there drive whatever they can afford like you and me.
I personally cannot stand Benz. I will never buy a Benz, they don't stand behind their product. My parents have a '01 S500 and already had the dash replaced, airmatic pump and relays, cats, driver seat 3 times, and tranny. To top it all off, the double pane windows are separating and Benz doesn't give a crap. Their cars are a rolling pile of steaming crap IMHO. The merge was fantastic for Chrysler, but brought the quality of Benz in the tubes.
I do my own work on the car, but when I need a lift or something I go to Cars & Concepts.

.. Anyone got the right tools to tackle a spring install?
I've never done it and don't want to tackle it without the proper stuff...

autozone or discount auto or whatever should rent you a spring compressor... thats all you really need like "special spring install tools" wise.

a set of jack stands are a good idea too
LDadrenaline

you always need jack stands to jack up a car... i just meant that spring compressor is the only special tool needed for springs....

I was just suggesting the stands as sometimes its overlooked
but this works too http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h85/catchuk/Darwin20Candidate.jpg

i know a tech at mercedes manhattan who drives a 740 to work every day.. :dunno:
you should probably check out cars & concepts as previously mentioned if you dont want to do the work yourself.
as for the spring install i would advise just taking the struts/springs to pepboys or something similar. they change a spring from strut to strut for $20. i tried using the loaner spring compressor from advanced and its a total pos.. why risk death/limb loss when you can get it done for $40

Check Technical Discussion for the Personal Experience thread, might just save you some money and let you meet some cool members.

I go to a guy named Gary, He owns a shop right here in Palm Harbor and has worked on my car since day one that its been here in Florida. It used to be called Ace Automotive but now its Starship I believe. He is right on US19 just before muvico. I only take it there when necessary like when my AC was giving me a hard time he fixed it and only charged me for it to be recharged with Freon. Didnt charge labor or any mechanical fixes. But yea he is BMW certified along with any other german cars and domestics. I dont have a complaint from him yet and I recommended a lot of people there and only get positive feedback.
What model BMW do you drive and where in palm harbor do you live? I might have seen you around.
