I'd like to read my codes and clear them all since I've fixed a few issues now...

eh dont know never had that issue.... actually i think if you disconnect the battery it resets our computer right? but for the dash lights (oil, inspection...), a paperclip in pins 7 and 19 wipes them out

You can use a universal scanner/reset tool on the OBD II connector. Some of them may even reset airbag lights depends on the scanners software you have. They are available online for about $80.00 to $250.00 ( check engine light only )
I would not suggest to use a paperclip to reset anything.

no the paperclip is an obd1 thing. you stick it in the pin holes for a certain amount of seconds and basiclaly it creates a short and resets the dash lights

Well if you touch the wrong pin you are buying a new ECU or something else in that nature. IMHO.

Yeah I would invest in a scanner if you plan on keeping your car for a while. I have a peake r5 fcxII. Works great and I have heard good stories about there customer service if you have any issues with it. The only negative is that its only for bmw's.

arent scanners universal?? I used kevlars like 5 times cuz my car kept flipping loose gas cap codes. He said he used it on his family's cars too, so id assume they are. And yeah, theyre only about $80

the peake one fits into the specific port under the hood, not the OBDII port. Universall ones will plug into the obd II port inside the car. My car has both ports

All OBD2 plugs are the same, thats the reason there is OBD, to keep **** universal. But the only differences may be are the codes themselves, however, the generic ones that are usually used do the trick, but they may not pickup bmw specific codes such as Vanos jam

I went to advanced auto today and had them read the codes/clear them. Exactly what I expected O2 sensor and HFM (my HFM died, new one in the mail).
He cleared the codes and mentioned he has a e36 with the same wheels with some mods so I threw him a card ;) Hope he signs up!
