So my car has been giving me some problems past few weeks. It keeps telling me my coolant is low, even though i got it replaced like a month or two ago. And my engine has been getting unusually hot, not too hot, just hotter than usual.

So, I took it to my mechanic today, and he said my coolant level is fine, and that the censor must be bad. This is where it gets kinda funny. I was driving around town with my gf on wednesday and the engine just wasnt cooling off. We were getting in and out a lot, turning the car on and off a lot to do so, plus it was really hot outside. I figd it was becus my coolant was low. Well today, the mechanic opened my hood, with the car on mind you, and whadya know, the fan wasnt even turning, at all.

So he says i need a new fan clutch and a coolant censor. Basically what I want to know is, does this sound right? I saw the fan myself, its def not working, but what about the censor. This guy isnt shady, weve done a lot of business with him, I just want to make sure all this sounds right before my parents spend a 150 or so dollars on this.

cooling systems can be a bit confusing sometimes but here's what i think: the fans are supposed to click on and off depending on what temperature the engine coolant is at the time. The coolant temperature censor is what regulates this, therefore if the censor is bad, then it might not be telling the fans to turn on at all. Another reason the engine might be getting hot is because of the thermostat stuck in a certain position, in which case usually will overheat the car if its broken (so probably not). As far as the coolant level goes, i'd check the level when the engine is cold like in the morning before starting it up, and also when it's at it's hottest point, and see if the level is below the level mark in either way. If your car is telling you low coolant, and you check it and it's perfectly fine, then i'd agree that the coolant level censor is bad. this is just all i can think of off the top of my head, someone please correct me if i'm wrong in any way here..

Im probly guessing its gonna be more than 150 too, the fan thing alone is gonna be around 130 I think.
